The piston has already been broken in. but the power valve hasnt. does that mean that i have to rebreak it in?
My manual says 32-1 so i aint messin with it, and so does jm racing. But it varies alot from bike to bike. Jm racing tells 85 owners that just got a rebuild, that they need to run 40-1 on break in then go back to 32-1 after a certain number of hours.

i think the shifter kart guys run at 20-1 but they are at redline forever. im very comfy at 50-1, cylinders and pistons go past 150 hrs no sweat, never oil fouls a plug. yeah, agreed 60 to 1 in the katoom as austria recommends just feels too thin. love the motul premix, clean burn on the top of the piston and the muffler doesnt drool.

Ok heres another update.
We are putting it together and there are two little arms that connected to a rod that goes through the entire valve. The arms are extremely loose and keep popping off of there rightful place. so we have to wait for new ones. So when this "thing" is actually running, it will have an almost new piston, ALL NEW POWER VALVE, meaning every parts in it is BRAND NEW OUT OF THE PACKAGE.
This thing better be ripping my arms of and i better be having fun. -.-

ripping your arms off? we'll see.

having fun.....heck, give me a crf50 and I can have a blast.

some of the best riding i've done is trying to keep up with 450's on a crf230. ps. I give 'em hell in the tight stuff.

Connor-back in the old days most of us ran 20:1 and I never did but I've seen people run at 100:1. The Motul 800 I'm sure is good stuff as well a Bel-Ray H1R and I'd feel safe at 32:1 with eather as long as that is what it is jetted for. For me I'd even give up a little power for a motor that runs smooth, clean and will not let me down. Oh yea in the old days at 20:1 there was always black junk leaking out of the head pipe and the joint of the pipe and muffler and the end of the muffler. There is alot better oil out today for 2 strokes. I think you will be happy with the way your bike runs after you get it back together, be sure you look at your plug before you run it to hard or long. I know it sucks right now but your learning alot about your bike and motors that is priceless in the long run, so hang in there and get it right.

P.S.--------get the gold colored power valve it is the one that offeres the smoothest power flow. But dont tell the others or they will all want one.

100-1??????? Thats Crazy! they must be wide open 247! lol
It ran OK before the rebuild, and it runs ok now, but the power valve is hurting the power and i the long run, making the bike slower.
I got the new reeds and junk in, so thats done. and eventually i will get the v force and a boyeson float bowl, just cause ive heard such good things.

Lets all pray that my power valve is squeeky clean and runnin lean when we are done smile

*Uuuuuuummm*- not sure you understand the ratios. So I will try and explain 20:1, that is 20 parts of fuel to 1 part of oil-so 20 qt.s of fuel mixed with 1 qt. oil would be 5 gal. of fuel with 1 qt. of oil. And 32:1 would work out to be 8 gal. to 1 qt. of oil. So 100:1 would be 25 gal. of fuel to 1qt. of oil.

Remember if you change your ratios of fuel and oil you will need to rejet the carb.

Not trying to confuse you, it is really all simple.

ummmm, ok
I get oil ratios i think? usually when you hold a 2 stroke in the rev limiter for to long the oil builds up and it over heats, so thats why i thought that you would mix less oil so there wouldnt be oil build up when you hold it in the rev limiter for 10 minutes straight. But im so confused on mixing that all i need to know is 32-1. No more mixing stuff smile it will confuse me!

Connor

I thought we were talking 2 stroke woods bikes-I dont know why one would need to hold it WFO for 10 minutes straight, but then again mybe I'm not seeing the hole picture.

There should be no oil buid up-the oil mixed with the fuel to make premix is to lube the crank and top end and any that is left should go out the exhust.

But on some 4 strokes it could if held WFO for 10 minutes pump oil into the vavle box faster that it can drain back to the bottom.

*L* but what do I know?

10 min wfo? sounds like desert... and I would mix at 25 or 30 to 1 for that baja type stuff, but I have no real experience with that sort of speed/throttle... but between 40, 50, or 60 to 1 in our woods, I wouldnt worry about changing jets in my bike. the cold front coming through or seasonal temp/humidity change would have a bigger affect on altitude density (i think, thats a swag). pick a mix, keep it constant, then ride and jet as necessary. i have a summer tune and a winter tune, some friends run the same needle and main all year long...

ex: right now houston "feels" more like 2000 to 2500 feet above sea level to a carb.
