This will be my first enduro. I'm pretty excited but as of this morning Weather.com is now showing a 50% chance of rain on Sunday. My local DFW weatherman also says rain on Sunday but they are predicting it for later in the day. I am just back riding after several years off and between there rarely being any rain in the past few months and the fact that the tracks and trails I normally practice on close down when it rains I literally haven't ridden in wet/muddy conditions in YEARS. So my question for you enduro veterans is what are some good tips for racing an enduro in wet/muddy conditions should it rain in the morning or during the race?

I picked up a set of goggles with the rolloffs, tearoffs & mud flap system for this race but beyond that I can't think of what else I should bring to the race that I may need to use/wear. Any suggestions?

One great thing about RRMT is how well it can handle moisture. Right now it needs all it can get. I was just there last weekend and it was very dry and dusty. I have raced and ridden there over the years in the rain and it usually just makes the trail better. Sounds like you have a good set up on your goggles. If I am going to ride rain and mud one thing iI like to do is tape an old goggle lens to the end oh my helmet visor. It makes a great extension and helps keep mud and water off your goggles when you duck your head if someone is roosting in front of you. Good luck on Sunday.

Make sure your front and rear brake pads have plenty of life left. Get some no-fog cloth for your goggles. Spray some cooking spray on the underside of your fenders. Pack dry gloves with your gas can for the gas stop (plastic baggie). Stay on the gas and pay close attention to your lines, it's much easier to ride in the mud if you can keep up momentum and don't get stuck in a hole.

I agree with Barry though, it's going to take a pretty significant wetting of the place in order to make it slippery.

Somthing else that could work along the same lines of the cooking spray, is line your fenders with duct tape or something similar. So when you get to gas or in between test sections if it gets to thick and heavy, you just grab the tape and pull it off and have fresh clean fenders. Now if you do it at gas thats the best time so you can re-apply the tape for the rest of the race. If it rains or not I will be up there and ready to have some fun! RR is pretty fun to ride in the rain, I think a little bit more so than when its dry!

All useful tips. I will definitely use them should things get wet. I also agree that the soil around north Texas could use some moisture. I did the last few TCCRA practices and last week's TORO and they were total dust fests. I'm just trying to plan ahead for a true muddy race should it happen.

Guess we'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to a new challenge. Thanks ya'll!

One thing I forgot to add and I've only heard this and have never tried it. Maybe some of the vets here can speak to this, but get some pantyhose and put over your radiators? I've been told this help keep the mud off to help prevent any overheating.

Again never tried but have been told it works?!

Good luck Sunday!

I've heard of that too. I'm a little concerned about the reaction I will get when I tell my wife I need to take a pair of her pantyhose with me to this race. haha

Keep some clean gloves and goggles at the gas stop or in your fanny pack. None of the other stuff is necessary, they are just tryin to get you to lube up your bike and ride around with panty hose on your radiators so you look like a newby.
