kennys got a good point. when i buy a used bike and tear into the carb for a cleaning, i dont even worry about the pilot, it just automatically gets replaced. everthing else gets scrubbed.

fouled spark screen, bummer!! i have heard of another 2 stroke story (locally) where the plug looked wet and everything thought it was too rich and wouldnt idle right. turns out it wasnt the jetting, it was a bad head gasket leaking fluid into the cylinder and fouling the plugs.

The only reason i want to rejet it is because its a completely stock bike from 2005 that just underwent surgery, and its a 2 stroke, and it sat for awhile before we bought it.
When i did the rebuild, i took the bowl off, and thats it. I'm also getting new reeds because those are still stock!
Another Question though, How are the V-Force 3 reed Cage? I know some people hate them because they flap around because they are clipped in, not screwed.

i have run them since 2006, and even with over 100hrs on sets, havent seen them flap. i wouldnt hesitate to run them on any new machine i got.. i tried the v4 on a 250 ktm and had jetting issues. i started swapping back and forth between the v3 and v4 and convinced myself i just didnt like the new v4 design. big fan of the v3 though.

Connor,

it looks like you have your answer. clean and adjust the PV and the carb, replace the pilot, check for leaks down the line from air filter to jug to spark arrestor.

If you have a manual, you can also check the jets according to factory. just sayin, you never know what the person before you did. They may have left out the moon phase factor!

welcome to the world of 2T's.

+1 on the V3

Hahaha, is the moon phase factor real? I mean seeing how that might change how much force of gravity the moon has on the earth, it might make gas move slower and how the air moves... ya know what, nevermind.
For now im sticking with a set of Boyeson reeds (stock cage) and in the near future going to get a v3. The guy before us did nothing, but he bought it from his friend who ran the piss out of it so we got almost no mechanical history on it.
At the end of this season, I'm splitting the cases and doing a full rebuild so thats when i will need a lot of tips on 2 stroke parts!
Thanks for all your help, especially Nate, he knows what hes talking about! haha

dont believe everything you read on the internet!! lol

after studying moon phase, also look up density altitude. even though we are near sea level, the motor thinks we are really at about 2300 feet due to pressure and humidity etc.
you might run slightly leaner jets due to this, in summer time.

oh something to consider too, the powerband and that 2 stroke hit. running a little rich makes it less explosive and for technical trails, sometimes a little less hit is a good thing. and repack that silencer often.

Connor----if it were me-I would start with the power valve first (remember it is a power valve) when I had it good and clean and working right if the bike still does not feel right-then I would be looking at the carb. I would stay on the fat side of jetting (may not make peak hp).
I dont know what oil you use for pre-mix or how you mix it, or how you keep it or how old it is. Also what fuel you use.

For me in the old days I used the same jetting on my 250 with pump fuel or race gas (vp 104) my bike ran better on rave gas but money was real tight so alot of times I had to run pump fuel.

Just keep it simple--------also do you put the oil in the gas can first or the gas in the gas can first????
That can make a real big differance.
One more thing the power valve is gummed up-how about your air filter-how offen do you clean it??
