Last Saturday, I went riding at the new ATV park in Crosby, TX called Down South Offroad. Below is a little write-up of my ride at the park, including several pics that I took.

This new park is located in Crosby, TX on old hwy 90 and has 700 acres of wooded trails, dirt roads, several ponds/small lakes, a few train tressels that you ride beneath, a few bridges and a beach area on the banks of the San Jacinto River. The park allows ATVs, jeeps and trucks to ride there. The park has a main dirt road that runs approximately 3 miles from the parking lot area to the beach area. From the beach area, you can continue going straight on the main dirt road and it soon turns into trails that lead to the pipeline area. If I'm not mistaken, this pipeline connects to the old riding area behind the New Port subdivision. (NOTE: I didn't try to go any further from the pipeline to verify this)

When I first arrived at the park, I drove my truck down the long entrance road until I reached a tent where I signed in and paid my entrance fee (it cost me $15 today for 1 person and 1 ATV). At the sign-in tent, they require everyone to present a valid TX driver's license or valid Texas ID card so they can scan it (supposedly this can be used to later ID any trouble makers and kick them out of the park in the event they misbehave). I noticed at the sign-in tent that they had an off duty police officer there. I'm sure these measures are intended to keep out the riff raff (luckily they let me in anyway! ).

That day, I rode in the park for almost 4 hours and put a total of 47 miles on my ATV. I found riding on the main dirt road was a bit boring, but it does have scenic views of several ponds on both sides of the road. One welcome sight was a water truck that I saw frequently watering the main dirt road. This seemed to be very effective in keeping the dust down today. Another welcome sight were several LARGE SIGNS with a map of the park that are posted along the main dirt road at various points. Also, many of the ponds, small lakes and trails were labelled with a sign nailed to a tree. I found that once I got a feel for where the main road goes, I really didn't need to view the map signs to find my way around.

I found several trails near the "skinny dipping lake" that were fast and fun and a few other good trails near the "river run trail" (past the beach area). Like all of the greater Houston area, this park could use some rain and cooler temps. At one point this afternoon, I found myself sitting inside my truck at the parking lot to cool off with some air conditioning and noticed that my truck's thermometer read 107 degrees...and I was parked in the shade! Despite the hot and dusty conditions, I highly enjoyed my ride today and I will definitely return to this park again.

Below are several pics that I took today. Enjoy!

Happy trails...
