Thanks to all of you that participated in the 2009 Burlingua Dual Sport Ride hosted by the Trail Riders of Houston, The American Motorcyclist Association and KTM. I haven't heard from anyone (that was there) that didn't enjoy the event this year so I'm assuming that you had a good time! That was our goal so we hope you did! Yes, we had a couple of landowner issues that popped up on us at the very last minute but we worked around them and pieced a course together that everyone could ride on Sunday.
I hope you enjoyed the food! My thanks goes out to Nereida Jurado, at Tivo's, for the great Chicken Fried Steak lunch on Saturday and "Kathy the Kosmic Kowgirl" for the excellent BBQ buffet on Sunday.
I'd like to thank the Brewster County Sheriff's Dept Deputies, Mr. Paul Rashott and Martin Willey for their traffic control support during our ride. A special "Thank You" goes out to Deputy Rashott for helping us find our lost rider late Saturday night! Thank You to DPS Officer, Corporal Renee Ybarra who provided us with traffic control support out on the Terlingua Ranch on Saturday and Thank you to the Terlingua Fire & EMS for your support. All of your assistance was invaluable to us.
I would also like to give major "Kudos" to my event crew - Ed Keeley, Lee Jordan, Randy Nemitz, Vaughn Ivey, Colin Hughes, Sam Stacy, Patrick Cummings, Sam Malignaggi (all the way from Melbourne, Australia), Shawn & Cody Osburn, our sign-up crew and especially to Chris Gilbert who provided us with legal advice and guidance in order for us to hold this Ride again this year! All of these folks donated numerous hours of their own time and their own money to put this event on. They are truly dedicated to the sport of recreational motorcycling!
Above all, "THANK YOU" to the residents and business folks that welcomed us back to Study Butte/Terlingua to hold our Ride once again this year. There are truly some FINE, hospitable people that live in the area! I hope all of you enjoyed their hospitality!
I'm very proud that all of you were "Street Legal" as we requested! On Sunday, Deputy Rashott reported to me that NO citations were written to any of our riders for any type of infractions during the two days of our event. That is outstanding! THANK YOU ALL! It makes it much easier for us to hold our Dual Sport Ride again next year!
Lastly, if things go the way we think they will, we'll look forward to seeing you again next fall. We are now working with some new (to us) landowners to make this ride even better than its ever been in the past!
We truly hope you enjoyed your "Burlingua" experience! I think Burl would have! Don't you?
On behalf of the Trail Riders of Houston, Thanks to all of You!
