I just bought a 06 crf 450 x and I am wondering how many miles I can get per tank full.

you might look around on www.thumpertalk.com. They have an active Honda 450 section.

that's the 2.9 gallon right?

should get 45 to 55 miles. depending on thottle control

Can't say for sure about the Honda, but I know my KTM 520 numbers for comparison:

20mpg at full race speed (over 40 B) on a fairly open track with lots of sand (Skull Creek). 2001 / 2002

35-40mpg on the twistie back roads around Laguna Seca raceway (2nd thru 6th gear, raking the gearbox with extreme prejudice). I was happily shocked at the mileage numbers last week. We rode the pi$$ out of the bikes and did pretty good on the gas. I made about 90 miles on 2.5 gallons during one of the trips.
