I believe the RXC is still using the old LC4 engine. It's a little down on power compared the the EXC/MXC mill, and the bike is substantially heavier. I think for mostly road-going trips the RXC is as good or better, but the EXC/MXC will make a much better off road based mount.

However, the RXC is either already street legal or almost ready as is. That's a factor to think about. It cost me about $500 to fully legalize my 400 EXC and my 520 MXC was about $100 higher.

I have a 520EXC that I made street legal & dual sported for a while & it was adequate. I abandon it for a 625SXC, the 520 is back to off-road racing only. The 450/520 RFS engine are racing engines. The 640 RXC was the LC4 engine just like my 625. The LC4 engine has been around at least since '94. I had a '95 400RXC that I DSed & raced for many years. The LC4 engine is very strong, long legged & bullet proof. It is a great dual sport bike. I also rode a 640 Super Enduro in Costa Rica for five days. I tuned the 625 suspension for my weight & it handles the rough rocky trails/roads of west Texas & is comfortable on the highway at 80. It is a little heavy for the trails like the National Forest, but manageable.

If you want to do serious DSing get the 640RXC. It you want ride mostly trails & jump out on the road, get the 450EXC.
