#260688 - 11/25/06 04:21 PM Looking to buy Kawasaki KL 250 Super Sherpa

I need to find a good used Sherpa ASAP. I am a new rider and an adventurous older female. Have taken some lessons and ride on the back of a friend's KLX 650 on trips. Now we want to travel together with separate bikes. Have not had good luck in locating a Sherpa before it is sold! Please help. I am in northern NM, 15 miles north of Taos. I have cash and could pick up the bike and close deal very quickly. I am small....5ft. 3 plus and 112lbs. The Sherpa appears to be a very good choice for its on and off road capabilities, height and weight.

Some responders seem to feel that Sherpa is not very good on road especially at altitude. Others seem to think it functions well on road within limits. We would be riding mainly offroad but eventually contemplate long trip through Latin America. Problem is I am small and a new rider and I want to feel very comfortable with the weight, size and handleability (new word!)

Thanks!

I have a buddy in Dallas who has a Super Sherpa. I think at one time he was considering selling it. I sent him an e-mail with a link to this thread. .

Did I read it correctly that you are planning to do road trips on this bike? If you are I would consider one of the 650's. The DR's will be more dirt worthy and can be lowered to a comfortable level for someone of your stature. The KLR can also be lowered substantially and will be better on the road. If you are planning on staying on the dirt mostly or riding around town then the Sherpa may well be the best bike for you.

Hey "Girl" welcome to the Forum......Love to see those first post!!!!

Living where you do you would be better considering at least a 400.....250's lose a lot of power when you get up in elevation....Think about a Suzuki DRZ, lots of them around and a great D/S bike from the factory.....not too tall but can be lowered also.....

Keep us informed as to your progress, we love to ride NM....
