Yes, we are in good shape. All the sections are ribboned, with a number of the sections already supporting arrows. The A/AA split is epic. I do believe it will acquire cult status. Norman's Nightmare, which is a small piece of the A/AA split, is a gruesome off-camber. Add in Phillip's Creek (which now has a new surprise in it), Waterfall, Joshua Tree, S-curve hill, Big Sky, and a few other select nasties, and you have one mean little X mile jaunt. Don't everyone fret, Joshua Tree has a bypass trail that adds about 20 to 30 seconds.
We are battling with a Nutria/Beaver in the Pete's Gate section. Three weeks ago the trail ran up a dry creek bed. Last weekend that creek bed was a foot deep lake compliments of mister beaver. We might leave it and just make it an obstacle. It's wide enough to let riders get around the unfortunates that might get stuck there. There have been thoughts of putting the elevator shaft back in the short course split through the West section. The only danger is if they don't get turned to the left at the bottom they could fall off into the river. The river is down so at least they wouldn't drown. It's only hazardous if it's wet. All in all I think we have the right ingredients to produce a good challenging event.
It was 100 degrees yesterday at the park. It didn't make for pleasant trail working conditions. It emphasizes that we need to be well-prepared for a hot weather event.
We need to make a big push for trimming. Spring has sprung and there's lots of new growth that needs to be whittled back. This Sunday is an official workday. If you plan to attend please drop me an email so that I can assign you to where the need is greatest. I will be there all weekend. I plan to take the Hilton-on-wheels up there Friday night or Saturday morning.
