Ok guys....been on my way back to the dirt for about 2 yrs and around TON for about the same mostly lurking as I have had no dirt bike.

I am getting a new to me KLX400 DS in about 10 days and I immediately need "short" levers. I mean immediate..."I hope that they are on prior to leaving the dealer" .

I used to use a brand called "IMPAC" but last ones I got was early 80s.
They were some incredible super CAN'T BREAK ME plastic. And, very short.

What is a good brand to get TODAY?
Material is not really and issue to me and I'm sure all that Bad A$$ plastic went with the shuttle so aluminum or stainless is fine. ABS sounds great?

Thanks

Hey Christopher....My first guess was that you are an engineer....Not that there's anything wrong with that...I come from a long line of them...
Getting really practical here.....Go by your neighborhood Cycle Gear and check out their lines of "Unbreakable Levers"....They have some engineering marvels available now...When the price of those knocks you over just buy some OEM style spares and keep them for if and when you fall off....
In the meantime don't fall off....
And....We have quite a few riders from your area....Be sure to post for some riding buddies.

Pretty sure how to take your post.
I have been riding since 1970.
I know where to get most parts and as I stated I cannot stand stock levers so I sure don't want 2 sets as you suggested.

What I did notice after all your garble is you did not answer my question so why post anything?

WTF does it matter what my professioin / education is?

I need a good manufacturer's name for levers...that would be short levers.

Are all of your 1,000+ posts so informative?

Thanks Mr nice guy!

A little touchy aren't you? Most users on TON poke fun at each other, even newbie's.

I have a set of red IMPAC levers hanging on the wall in my garage. You can have them if you like. They will not work with modern bikes, but they are yours.

Rocketman is a wealth of information. My guess is you just lost access to it. Oh and by the way
going to cycle gear and looking at some of the new levers IS a good idea. There are a number
of brands and types long, short you name it. Truthfully how can we answer what levers are the
right ones for you? I like MSR Dominators and the new inexpensive ASV (for ASV) unbreakable
levers are also nice but at 40 a pair they are a bit pricey.

The Rocket is so informative he said "...my local cycle gear..." Nothiing about a website. THAT website has a whole 2 levers...A BRAKE LEVER and a CLUTCH LEVER!

You guys are something else aren't you.

Sorry I asked the wrong question to the wrong people. Such a simple question too.

Your RED IMPAC levers would be the wrong color! Thanks though

Poking fun at a newbie....GEEEEEZZZEE come on

I asked a halfway intelligent, simple question. I figured someone here would have an opinion / suggestion?

Question #2...How do I lube my muffler bearings?

try Sloan's or Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse, or Tucker Rocky or Chapparal or Dennis Kirk or Competition Accessories for more selection. They all have websites where you can browse.

And by the way, if you can't take a little good natured ribbing from another engineer-type-person, you're on the wrong website.

I'd like to make another suggestion, then BonesnTX, you do what ever you want to do, but don't jump down my throat. I just took my levers and cut them off shorter. I don't like the longer ones either, but I also don't like the plastic ones from the seventy's (I rode then too) they just don't have the same controlability because there just not as ridgid ( but of coarse you don't have to feel this way).

I would suggest putting on some bark busters or hand gaurds to protect the rigid ones from getting broken and protect your hands and perches. All most everyone does. But of coarse I don't think Rocketman does. If you were ever to ride the Big Bend with Rocketman and the rest of us you would really appreciate those. But I think you may need to ask for forgiveness now to do that.

I don't know where to find plastic ones. But I have seen carbon-fiber ones. (Maybe this is what you wanted to hear)

Try looking at www.rockymountainatv.com they've got a lot to look at.

Now chill!
