Hello, I am new to the race scene but have ridden for 10+ years. I recently rejoined the dirt scene after many years off and have become interested in this Series. I don't know anyone who has raced them and am not sure if my skills will be sufficient to participate. I have done many rides around tracks like Del Valle, Cherokee Cycle Park & Cross Creek without any issues. However, I see obstacles like large trees and monster truck tires in some of the pictures and I am not too sure about tackling those items just yet. Any feedback would be appreciated.

mavic, most of the torcs cross stuff like big logs and tires have alternate routes so if your not comfortable with going over them go around, other than that with ten years of riding under your belt you should be able to handle anything else the great staff at torcs throws our way, so come out and race you'll love the races and the people everyone i've met at the races and the staff are all very freindly and helpfull. Hope to see you at the march races I run on sundays 30c class #930

You don't have to be put off by some of the more extreme sections that you have seen in some of the pictures for our events. When one of those is present in a course there is always an alternate route for those of us that are not as daring or accomplished as some of the more experienced riders. As you gain more confidence and ability then you can tackle the more advanced challenges. TORCS always looks out for all riders and gives a course that has something for riders of all skill levels. Come on out and join us, you will have a blast.

Hello Mavic,

Gil and Jackie and all of the Torcs crew put a lot of work into their courses to make them challenging and relatively safe. Most of the tree and tire crossings will also have an easy route that allows you to skip the obstacle with a penality in time, usually about 10-15 secs longer for taking the easy route.

From time to time there will be technical sections of the course that are a bit too much for new riders and those parts of the track will only be opened to the A and B riders. Beginners will never even see it.

It's in their best interest to keep you coming out for all of the events. They're not out there to scare, hurt and physically beat their riders.

Being new to racing is a spot we have all been in at one time or another. Don't let that deter you from showing up. Torcs (like most off road associations in Texas) is a great group of riders and friends, who have an amazing time sharing a common passion, off road racing and riding.

Hope to see you out at the next event, if there's anything you need to know, just holler.

Take care,
Lee

They dont have the tuffest obstacles like seen on you tube where Knighter does a face plant off the tires or some of the crazy looking log crossing seen on there also at some of the gncc events, if you ride a old bike like me a simple small log to cross will knock the pipe lose, thus some old crazy guy dragging a exhaust pipe around in a race trying to get his name in cycle news online. Its all good !

Thanks for the encouragement and I will start making plans to ride the Cedar Creek course in I would guess the C division. I currently pilot an 04 CRF450 with Black #'s on White plates. I will need to convert my plates to a black background and white numbers if my classification is right. Any ideas on the cheapest way to accomplish that task?

Mavic, cheapest way to convert your backgrounds and numbers is to bring a 24 pac of bud over and i'll help you out.

You've heard enough about easy/hard sections but remember to try some hard sections during practice. wait and watch others, then try. someare alot easier than they look. the tire are pretty easy they just look tough. and the pictures are of people doubling them. not everyone does.

well see you out there...

Hate you under-bid you...but I'll help him convert his backgrounds for an 18 pack of Coors Light.

Mavic you need to watch out for individuals like the two above they are out to scam you. They have hidden fees they are not telling you about. Bring a Bottle of crown royal to my trailer and I will help you drink the Crown and fix your issues. I am just kidden with you most if not all the people at these races will bend over backwards to help you out. I have been racing this type of races with most of the same people for over 10+ years. Not only the racing is a great experience at the tracks. Just telling lies (I mean beach racing)to your fellow racers about the near misses is a lot of fun. Come out a have a ball someone will help you out with the backgrounds issues until you know what class you need to be in.
