Before the red river race i bought a 3.1 gallon fuel tank for my kx250.I ran out of gas at the 2.5 mile marker on my third lap. WHY ??? could be carb problems??? i thought bigger tank i would not have to stop for gas in the middle of race has you would with a stock fuel tank.thanks,Luke

You probably want to post this in the dirtbike maintenance forum.

If you can only go 22 miles on 3.1 gallon, you do seem to have a problem. Short of just running gas out of the carb overflow, I can't imagine how this unit even runs. My 200 can make about 55 miles on about the same amount of gas.

Luke,
My YZ426 went 5 laps on less than 1.8 gal. and considering my speed and skill level most of that was in first gear.

it runs great. when i start it acts like it wants to foul a plug and sometimes at low speed. i think my float is sticking. i just hope its an easy fix.

Luke, you definitely have something wrong. Did you check to see if it is leaking around the petcock. Sometime you have to file them down smooth. I have a 99 KX 250 with a Clark 3.2 gallon tank and I can go well over 50 miles.

If the float is sticking you should see fuel running out of the carb vent lines. Check it both running and not.

If that is the problem, the easiest way to fix it would be to just stick some chewing gum on the vent lines to plug them so that gas can't leak out. Dirt /mud works pretty good , too.
