I am looking to get a new bike soon, I may just go for a new 125, but i want to try something new. I am a loyal honda owner and was looking at the up and coming CRF250s. I only ride Motocross and then occasional dune tripp, but i am looking to expand my hoizons. I have ridden the trails a few times and really liked it. There are two versions of the CRF250 coming out the CRF250R and CRF250X. they both have the identical engines and suspension, but the X has an electric start, lights, and larger gastank. If i was to get the X could i theiroleticaly still race if i removed the electric start, light and gastank. I would replace the gastank with a stock CRF250R tank when i race. It seems to me it would just save me the burden of having 2 bikes, one for the trails and nite riding, and one for MX.

I will make it clear that in an ideal sitch. i would have Bikes for both applications.

I think my idea is stupid, but then the money is tight this year.

thanks for looking

I plan on getting the X model but I'm leaving everything on it, and still gonna ride it in MX races. MX is what I prefer to ride but I sure do love that electric start when I'm out in the woods and fall over and am too pooped to kick the bike!!!!

I thought about the YZF but the seat height on the Honda's start out a full 1 1/2 inches lower...and with my short stubby body...that's what I need!!!

I know...people think that a REAL dirt bike doesn't have an electric start....to me....doesn't matter what other people think. If I like it...then cool!

I'm hoping this bike is gonna be as sweet as it sounds! I can't wait until it comes out. Got cash...ready to buy!! WOO HOO!!

well its funny i'm even thinking about it considering i'm the "four bangers are for wussies" guy

I'm just thinking the weight would be a bit to mutch for MX on the X. Thats why i'd remove the starter. I have ridden older heavier bikes on the MX track just to see how the weight really affects it and you would be suppriesed.

Why get the X if you are going to remove the starter? That would be the main reason most people buy it is for the "magic button". Stick with Honda and get the CRf250R. Its going to be out waaaay sooner than the X model anyway......

well i will remove the starter during race season, i already have plans for a conversion kit. I will just fab up covers.

I will simply put on a stock CRF250R tank, and make fibercarbon covers to cover the gap for the starter.

if there is enough intrest i will offer a cheap kit for it.

    later

Are you sure the X model will have a kick starter? My wife's CRF230F has only electric start, no kicker.
