In the Family Race series,most of the starting techniques provide certain bikes a distinct advantage, except for the simple ,live-engine moto start. A Recluse-equipped bike can be started in-gear, to have a definate advantage over a kick-start only bike w/ a regular clutch for a dead engine start. Even the live engine,hand-on-helmet start provides a big advantage for a bike that can remain in gear.Same way for the stradle-the-front-fender start.Dead engine starts give an advantage to electric-start bikes.
Why not just give everyone the same handicap? Live engine moto start. The only disadvantage to this,is when there are 40 riders/class trying to get to the tree line first.
And no,I cannot just go out and get Recluse clutches for all of my bikes.I have to make do with what I have.

...boy we're start'n to hit the bottom of the barrel when it comes to excuses!

how bout a gran prix foot race start from 100 yards away uphill and through the snow and you have to find your boots out of 4 different piles of boots blindfolded while getting squirted by little kids with water guns, then the bikes are upside down with the wheels off..... you get the idea!  and I bet BAP is thinking "Hell yeah!"

cylinder off the bike, have to reinstall it then take off. advantage: premix crowd.

In case you did not get my point,please tell me why live engine moto start would not be a good idea for everyone. That may be fairer... ...but where does fairness stop? SCCA tests each machine(car), classes them, then specs "stock", "modified" and "open". I'm new to the sport but I like the fact it's more about rider skill than the machine...or most of us wud be A riders. Cheers
