as long as you meet the light, horn, brakelight and tires requirements, you can get a plate on any kind of bike. Do a search, there are several threads about what you need to get street legal.

The one BIGGEST thing I'd want on any D/S is the wide ratio trany. Like the: (XR 400-650 / CRF450X/ DRZ400 / DR 650/ WR 250-450 / KLX 450-650/ EXC400-450-525 / TTR's) The bike like the CRF's/RMZ's/ KXF/ YZF and SXF are close ratio and will run out way too soon. Personaly I'd like the XR's and EXC's but any are good bikes...

Connan, I recently had your problem in reverse. My KTM bikes were perfectly legal in Texas, with headlight / taillight, brake light, horn and DOT tires. My sons are USAF, and one is in Monterey CA. He was told he can't ride on base without turn signals. He was then told he can't ride on the streets without them either! Other son is in Vegas, and had same problem with the base. So I added turn signals to both bikes and made the world a better place to live in (at least they are legal everywhere).
Texas will welcome your TTR with open arms. It will be a better street ride than the YZF, for sure. And should be very easy to convert, since it is based on the old Serrow dual sport bike.

Curtis, my 520 dual sport is an MXC with close-ratio gears. Of course, it has 6 of them and will still run 90+ with ease (on a closed course only with experienced rider )

Yes, it's a lot different than Kommifornia! I lived out there for 10 years and watched it go downhill the entire time, losing more and more of what had made it so great. I've been in Austin for 13 years now and can't imagine leaving.
