A local guy has a 2005 klr 650 in like new condition for $5000.00. Just over 500 miles on it. I'm considering it for some longer ds rides like I see you guys taking all the time.

Is this bike a little big for off road ds'ing? I know its heavy.

Thanks for your help

This is a question most of us could not answer for you......It's a very personal thing.....We all have opinions though, I'm sure.
Maybe this will help.....Of the recent rides noted here on the TON I think only the Easter beach ride had a KLR along.....Most of the guys ride something else.

You might want to check out Kelley Blue Book's website. If you scroll to the bottom, on the left there is a link for motorcycle values.

According to Kelley Blue Book, a dealer's asking price for a 2005 Kawasaki KLR650 should be $3,765. It does have low mileage, but is a private sale - so to me that is kind of a wash (a 2005 should always be in great shape). Granted these values are not set in stone, but I would definitely use it as a tool for you to help determine value.

As far as the bike itself, it seems to have a large following - and is quite good at what it is intended for. It was definitely high on my list - but I wanted something a little more dirt oriented.

Good luck!

The more I think about it the more I think I should just DS my 450xc. Dont know if I'd be able to hang with those xr 650's though in the long haul. Should have kept the 525 last yr.

Thanks for the replys.

save a couple grand ... take a looksy here

that would be one I would be looking at ...

that is if my wife weren't so against going back to paved roads ... (that may change after HI)

also a Husky 610 (I think) a little ways down the classifieds

don't take me wrong, I've owned more Kawasakis than most other brands, but ... depends on what you are really looking for. if you are looking for a good off road bike that is street legal OR a street bike you can ride on dirt ... huge differience to me.

dirt runs thru my veins, and I would easily take a true dirt bike converted over a streetable leaning towards dirt. just depends on where your priorities are to me.

KLR is a great bike and that price doesn't seem too bad at all.
KLR was not to my liking for me as it is a Cadillac and I like Ferraris so I got the KLX 400 DS.

Depends on what you want to do where!

Pmk, thanks but I need an e-start bike as I'm short and it makes a big difference.

Bones I like ferrari's too. Guess I'll ds my 450 for now and see how it goes. I'm definitely more dirt oriented and the lighter the bike the better for me.

Thanks all.
