Hi, a few friends and I are coming to the Memorial day race in Waco. I was wondering what kind of equipment you guys are using to 0 the checkpoints. I have an 03 YZF250 but its been so long since Ive been in an enduro Im not sure what's available out there that will work on my bike. Im thinking probably some sort of electronic combo unit that has an odo and a stopwatch on it but Ive never seen one. DO you run roll charts too or is there some new gizmo that you can upload the checkpoints into? I like to ride on MX tracks and would prefer something that is easy to remove. Thanks, look forward to seeing you there. Wife is hollering up the stairs -gotta get to church now!.

Hey Brian!
You don't need any equipment, just your bike and gear.
We will do the time keeping for you.
Each rider will make 5 laps around a set course. Each lap will be timed, and all 5 lap times will be added together to get the total time it took to complete 5 laps. At the end of the race, the rider will draw a playing card, Ace through 5. The card will tell us what lap to average. Lets say you draw a 2. We take your lap time for lap 2, and multiply it by 5, and that is your average time. We compare it to your actual time, and the difference is your score.
I hope that’s clear as mud. Just come out and ride, we will handle the rest.

I don't know about being famous. I'm just loud.
We can help you get into the time keeping part of Enduros. You can go cheep, or you can do the computer thing. I won the 1999 4 stroke "C" class with an odometer, watch, and a route sheet holder. The whole setup cost about $30. The bike had an odometer, so I didn't have to buy one. Trailtech makes a neat odometer that will work on a MX bike for about $80.
The cheapest way is to get on a row with riders that know how to keep time, and just ride with them. I used this method for years.

I raced the Blackjack enduro in 1996 (its the only enduro I ever entered) and they issued me a row number weeks before the race started. How do I pick a row with good time keepers? Maybe its different in the local enduro circuit. And how will you win anything if you just follow other riders (follow A riders maybe, yeah right lol)? Geeesh, maybe I need to stick to MX I dont think Im smart enough for enduro racing! Thanks for the tips, where can I pick up a route holder?

In the TSCEC races you can pre-enter on a row, or pick a row when you get to the race. Most of the time the people at sign up can tell you a good row to ride on, and who on that row can help with the timekeeping.
Winning your class means keeping on a set schedule throughout the race. If you follow someone on your row, and that person stays on time, so will you. If the person you are following is in your class, then you have to beat him at the tiebreaker checks. When you pick your row, just make sure you are the only one on the row in your class.
You can always get on a row with us. We are always late, but we are having a great time.
The first year you race on the Enduro circuit, just go have fun, and learn the ropes.
The big difference between MX and Enduros is you get more riding for your dollar.
Most MX races are 5 to 10 laps, and it takes about an hour. Cross Country, and Hare Scrambles races run a 7 to 10 mile course for about 1 to 2 hours. The short course in an Enduro is about 50 miles, and you will be on the bike for about 4-5 hours. Enduros offer more bang for the buck.

Remember, we are here to help

Sounds good Ralph, see you Mon. One more thing: should we plan on riding at all after the race is over with?

Oh yeah! We'll be riding all day!
Ralph and I are getting there on Sunday after church and we are riding all day, then we get to ride again after the Enduro.
By the way...don't expect a TSCEC quality race. Most of the people coming out are there to ride around and have fun.
By the way...you are the reason I have my KX250 (bought it from an online broker on your reccomendation) Thanks!
See you there.

Brian, perhaps i will become the reason you buy a YZF 250! No comparison for woods work IMO. About the race Mon: kids race starts at 10, what time do I need to be there to be reasonably on time for the adult race? Every minute helps as I have much to do Mon early am. Thanks
