The "upper part" of the KIPS (the gears and valves in the cylinder)- Unless you are mechanically inclined and can figure out a 3D puzzle of "this gear goes here this way, because it has to turn the half-gear that turns that other gear, so that all of the valves open and close together in perfect unison at the right time"- then BUY THE SERVICE MANUAL, it will save your ass.
That's the part I was referring to when I said I was amazed at the engineering. The way all those gears, notched rods, and sub-valves work together to open and close various ports...amazing! There's was no way I would have been able to put it back together without the manual!

Tominator's probably referring to one of the valve covers on the cylinder. Like Vintage Vinnie said...the manual is money WELL spent.
