O.K I need some advise on purchasing the right size generator.
I bought a new Camper(with roof top air-microwave) and a new Coleman generator........Gen crapped out after 4 uses. It was a 5000 watt 6250 max.
Is Honda the way to go? what size

define "crapped out" because for most usages that size generator should carry a typical a/c and microwave without any problems.

Any warranty on it?

any idea what the BTU rating is on the a/c? not running dual a/c by chance? what wattage is the microwave? camper being a trailer or cabover camper (like slide into the bed of a truck)?

more details needed to properly evaluate the situation!

I have a Honda 4500EX (extra quite) with a 25' travel trailer and it has no touble, 5000 watts should have been plenty. I've only tripped my generator breaker once, to do it I had the microwave on had just turned on the water heater, the air, and switched the fridge to electric and had most of my lights on, it still took it about 5 minutes before it tripped. Basically if it was electric in my camper it was on.

I would definitely recommend Honda but there are others that are good too. The main thing I would recommend is to get a quite one, I'm sure you want to keep your friends.

here I go sounding like a commercial again, but Camping World has great prices on Onan generators. The good thing about Onan is parts availability. The Onan Emerald series is also very quiet, but you pay for it, don't know how the prices compare with Hondas. I've got a Generac 5000, it's pretty loud, even with the extra big muffler. Sort of like a 400 cc thumper!

It was a Coleman powermate from home depot. Nice unit but only a 15 amp breaker. I think I cooked the breaker. Home depot says they get alot of these back. Not ment for continous run.
I'm looking at a honda EB3000c, the dealer says it will run a\c only ,no prob. A/C off to run microwave.
It has a Cyclo-converter instead of alternator.
Cool part is its light weight, gets good gas milelage, and quiet( 68db full load) sells for @1100.00
Has anyone tried this unit?
