Texas SB43 seeks to forbid all lawful non-commercial users of two way mobile radios from using the radio while moving (traveling).

This includes ham radio, CB, GMRS, pretty much any 'legal box with a mike and an antenna jack' that's installed in a vehicle.

Is it a misguided attempt to forbid cellphone use by sweeping away all communication capabilities from the public?
Is it a way to locally suppress freedom of communication using an end-run around our federal licenses?
- (BTW -CB is licensed by FCC rules under federal law)
Who can say? I was taught to never confuse incompetence with malfesance, but it's bad news in any case.

Commercial users like truck drivers and dispatches services may continue as before. Meanwhile, the innocent family traveling in the minivan with a CB antenna will be stopped and face inquisition by the highway patrol and every-town police officer. Hey someone has to see the worst-case.

The hams are writing their representatives -probably because they use it all the time and have worked for it, not just paid $50 for a license.

It's much bigger than the hams though. We should do the same to protect ourselves, no matter what kind of 2-way radios we each use for the safety of our families while traveling. We convoy with friends and family. We have the same right to safety and communication as everyone else.

These radios are not distracting like cellphones.
No one has to read/enter text or punch in numbers to use the 2-way.

Please Read the bill, and track the bill through the legal process:

sorry for posting something so annoying. Let's not get caught out.

This is absurd. Why would a trucker be able to use a CB, but not a car driver?

I think near the border they don't want people warning others when the popo are around.
