Rob, yes that is the correct track. Pretty tame MX course and a lot of grass track. Open and flowing.

Rob - at races where there is an MX track, it is NOT legal to leave the track and go around the jumps. It is legal to roll them however. Gil pointed this out during the announcements at the last race (that no one ever listens to).

Well at Spoakes guys were going around jumps all day, were you there? I didn't do it but there was go arounds on almost every jump.
Heck there was a line besides the rhythm section some used(to the left of track).

Now I'm talking the series race not tag team, there was nothing said before race that I know of.

I don't see why it matters one way or the other. Takes just as long or longer to go around than to jump it. I know my suspension is not set up for MX and big jumps and rolling a jump is a good way to get landed on.

If that question is for me, I did the jumps, just stating I saw riders during the morning race go around the jumps. There was definitely a worn in line. And as BehindBars said, it was not an advantage to go around , it took longer. As for"why be on track", it's part of the series, if you're chasing points you make all races. Some of us just prefer not to ride mx.

And agree with Behindbars, rolling a jump isn't always the safest route.

I can't remember whether Gil made the announcement at the series race or at the tag team, but it doesn't matter - the rules were the same for either race.

I'm not saying guys weren't going around the jumps - they were. And I saw the line. It is ILLEGAL.

The correct comparison is someone legally staying on the track and rolling the jump vs. someone maintaining speed
and riding alongside the track avoiding the jump. The rider going off the track will be much faster through a given section.

The point of having the MX track in a course is to vary the terrain and test different sets of skills. Fine if you don't want to jump, but you can't just avoid the obstacle - not only is it illegal, it's lame.

I don't see the concern about being landed on as an issue.

All of our conversation here is moot however - the rules were clearly stated by TORCS.
I would hate to see someone DQ'ed over this - maybe some tape to keep riders on the course before the jumps would help.

Were you at the series race? If so right after start probably first jump was a "ski" jump that everyone was going inside. DQ the field I guess. Like I said I don't like mx but I went over all jumps as best I could. Never understood off-road guys, they'll cut any corner, while in mx not a problem. Look at pro lines in the woods.
