Rumor is Zars. But no confirmation on that yet. Gil said flier will be out soon.

Spoaks Mx in Lockhart.

Is this a private track or something new? I didn't find anything about it online... I'm not on the book of faces or the TORCS app.

Spermy, I raced the Astrodome 3 years in row in the early 90's on my KX125 and CR250. They used to have amateur racing in the morning before the Supercross and that Friday night you had to go the hotel next to the Dome to check-in and get your pit passes and "mechanic"(drinking buddy) passes and you felt like a rock star. Nobody could do it but they wud always put a stutter jump in front of triple just to keep some idiot from even attempting it and only a few guys cud even clear the last 2 on it. Those darn whoops are about 4ft high although dont look it from the stands and the face of the jumps I swear are 60 degrees. Heck I remember coming home from some bar that Friday night on Washington Ave about 2:30 am, went home got about 2 hrs of sleep and was in the Dome parking lot 5:30 am and was still pitch black outside and tinkering with my bike with a flashlight..........man the good ole days.

I qualified to race in the astrodome in ' 86 when you could race the Texas series and qualify for the morning race. Forget the triples the doubles and whoops were insane. Three days prior to the race I framed the sky double In the back of old skeeters in Alvin breaking the link to the swing arm. Well breaking the link to my brother cr swing arm. Kid in college no money I still owe him don't tell on me !

Rode Skeeters from they day it opened prob. around 1983 when it was called Tex Raceway on YZ80 up until the mid 90's. I was just there a few months ago at the Ultimate MX track which is right next to the old Skeeter night track. As far as I know its been closed for years but the old Skeeeter MX sign from the old days is still up out on the highway. I remember we'd take papaws old 70s Ford Econoline van with gutted rear interior and we would load the 2 bikes, our uncle would take me and my twin brother and he had a 80 KX 250. One of us would have to sit on a bike stand (milk crate) behind the engine hump. Heck I can just see Spermy now pulling up to a race with 70s lime green van with a JT Racing and DG sticker on the rear window. Has a crescent moon window cutout in the rear section with a 3" rear shackle kit, magnesium slot rims and a vintage Maico in the back. He unloads it with his 2x6 bike ramp and props it up on his bike stand (milk crate) he stole from the local elementary school.

This new place is epic. Clint Wilson owns it and has a motocross track that has an equal skill level for everyone. The jumps are fun if you jump a lot. There are about 5 Tabletops and about 3 doubles. There is a whoop section that leads to a ski jump. As for trails its virgin that hasn't ever been touched really. Clint owns a water truck which if there is any dust he can keep it down if need be.Parking is good and for all the day trippers there are good shade trees to park under.I can't wait to see side by sides on sunday racing on the Moto Track. I think this race will be really cool for the side by side crew. The dirt is a lot like Murphys and has a little bit of sand in it. Clint had invite only ride days to try the whole motocross track owner thing out. It is called Spoaks MX but most might of heard Clint Wilson's place. I know everyone is wondering about the new property so i felt the need to inform everyone.

GIL that is the right property to give a perspective. I dont know if there is any elevation in the wood since I haven't ever ridden trails there before.

When mx properties are used why are the jumps always used in the normal mx fashion? Seems it would be safer and more in tune with woods riding to cross them from the side or different angles as obstacles requiring more technique. I realize this would require the "ok" from the track owner. Just wondering.

Irish they normally are since people in higher classes will still try and jump the obstacles even if it is backward or from the side which would end up making it more dangerous. But yes i do get your point. You have your woods technique in the woods and if there is a Moto track you have to adapt to the course that is given. A good rider is not just a woods rider or Moto rider it is both. Look who is winning the pro class Forrest Player, Jeremy Wanjura, and Even Nathan Goertz are all very good moto riders.

Fast is fast. But I don't think he's talking about the pace. I think he's referring to riding a Mx track as a woods race just the fact of a Mx track.

I agree with Irish. If we wanted to ride a track we would go race on tracks. Same reason why some people do not go to the North groups anymore because they started incorporating tracks at some of their events. But none of us know why Gil chose this property. May be an availability/date thing or just adding to the list of options down the road.

Good discussion. I am not against properties based on an mx track especially since land is so hard to attain. And most everyone likes to go to fresh new trails. I was just suggesting a "creative" take on the serious jumps. If there was an immediate turn, chicane or something similar, that would deter the mx types from just flying them. With most of our tracks basically flat i'll bet using jumps in some manner to break that up would be welcomed. I am not saying to eliminate all of them, by no means. I realize there are some multi-talented racers in TORCS but many of us have zero mx tracks any where near. Whatever, I am sure the new property will be a fun event and I appreciate the effort involved.

I watched the video that was posted really didn't look that appealing to me unless it's changed up. Sweeping turns and couple table tops. But yes I am in agreement. Mx tracks need to be separate from woods. Just my opinion and we all know everyone has one. I think it's a property issue and the willing ness for land owners. Deer season starting and there's no money in letting us run all over.

Guys, this is an 400 acre property. Roll the jumps, the mx track should be a small part of the trail. It'll be a blast, coming in blind to a new property. Gets boring riding the same trail IMO.

What do you do when you are riding up hills and down them on a trail? You ride up and down them, do the same thing if you are not comfortable jumping.

And now I remember why I never get on the forums any more. Y'all have no idea how lucky we are to have a new 400 acre property to race. Due to the rain out from Harvey we were unable to reschedule with rally ranch or Rays Place because of scheduling conflicts. Steven Rathmann had been telling Gil about Spoaks MX for awhile. In one day Gil called the owner, went to see the property, and the gracious owner agreed to let us race there.

Trust me I am not a MX rider but years past Jackie and Gil had several places where they ran both. And the best I can remember the moto part was a welcome sight for me after the woods sections for a little breather.

I'm by far not the best MX rider or woods rider for that matter, but I don't think anybody should be deterred from "MX" track. So you cant jump that good compared to the next guy thats what this is all about not everyone is on the same skill level as the next guy but this it what makes it fun. I did the TORCS race 2 years ago at Murphys MX and I've also done the last 2 TORCS tag team races at Murphys MX and its a blast. When it comes down to it you're prob. talking the MX track might make up 5% of the total race layout so it doesn't factor that much in my opinion. I cant' wait for a new location and I actually like the mixed up layout....u can cool off on the open straights.

Time to put your big boy pants on and go racing. I prefer MX but considering this will be my first race in 4yrs I'd be happy with any location.

Good to see your back in. I had to give it up last year. My back injury has gotten to be more than I can race with. Are you still riding the old YZ? Give my best to Mike, Spermy, and the rest of the DD crew. Both of my bikes are sitting race ready if you run into anyone with the old bike bug.
Take care
