My 15yo son is interested in possibly racing. He has his hope set on possibly racing in the upcoming race in September. I see you have a race coming up on 5/20 and 5/21 nearby, and think it may be a good idea to come watch, ask questions, and see how everything works.
Do we need to become members to come watch this race? Would it be ok to bring his motorcycle to this event to ride course when practice/racing is not happening? If spectators are allowed, how much will the entry fee be?

Spectators are welcome, it's $10 at the gate. I don't know about riding for practice. To get some sort of idea of the courses you can look on YouTube and find race videos from several riders at each property.

Thanks Dave! We are looking forward to going.
I think we will leave the bikes at home.
My son has been watching the videos you mentioned and is excited about the possibility of racing.
Is there a beginner class for his age (15)?

What bike does he ride? Most classes are by bike size. Something like open D would be good if he is on a full size bike. I'm not super familiar with the classes smaller than that but looking on the website should help.

He can sign up for the practice without having to race. Each race has several classes in it that are close to skill level. This is also how they do practices. So he will have to practice with everyone else in that race group. But it will be completely at his own pace. He can stop and go as he pleases as long as he is mindful of the other riders and moves over if needed. The practices are under a time limit but depending on what class he chooses there is usually plenty of time for several laps depending on his speed and if he chooses. You should check the rules and schedule on the website and determine a class so that you know what time to arrive. First thing in the morning there is usually a line to register but the ladies working it makes things move quickly.

Rockin is correct on most, but let me clear up a couple things. To practice YOU MUST SIGN UP and PAY to race. You don't have to race but you must sign up. This is an insurance issue. Also you will be stopped if you don't have or your transponder isn't working.

Open D is the place to start for him and then look at his lap times and move him accordingly. He may stay in the D class for a year and learn.

My Son is 15 and rides in the 250 B on Sat and 13-29 B on Sun. He rides a KTM 150. Post what you son rides and we can help out. Everyone is very friendly and will help you figure out what is best.

Good luck and we'll see you out there.

Thanks for all of the info!
He rides a crf250x.

Agreed with Rockin and Spermy, just want to add for his first time that you might want to have him in practice on Saturday at 12:00 bc that is dedicated to C and D riders only where as Sunday is the entire group of Pro through C, he will be fine either way but will be less frustrated on Saturday as he will have less guys coming up behind him at a pace that he may not be used to. And please tell him if encountered not to try to race guys with blue, red or yellow number plates, he probably wont have to come to a complete stop just ease to one side, hold his line and the rider will pass without incident.

race sign up is $45.00 per entry and I believe $10 per person to enter the property.

My son is 13, almost 14 and races the 13-29 C on Sunday and rides a ktm 125.
