McMahan Ranch near Smithville, TX.

This is a Draft Post. Probably will amend.

The McMahan's have started a tradition where they allow AMSA Members to ride for free at their ranch in exchange for helping us take down all the old ribbon and arrows once a year. Sort of a clean up the ranch and membership drive! We are so grateful for this ongoing relationship and tradition. HUGE Thanks to the McMahan Family !!!

We plan to take down ribbon and arrows around 2 pm to prepare for the race we will host in late February.

Please bring a Grocery sack, take down some ribbon and arrows. If everybody helps it might take fifteen to thirty minutes tops!

The ranch has grown another 500 acres. We do not have trail set-up or marked on the new acreage. We plan to have a guided tour of the new 500 acres at some point during the day. I am guessing between noon and 1 PM? Check with me at sign-in for a meet-up time to ride over to the new area. I will try and post some time estimate here before Saturday !

[color:#FF0000]I apologize but I am NOT gonna be able to pull off the BBQ for this Sunday. The flu kicked my butt most of the week or so and I do not think it is a good idea to be cooking and possibly get a bunch of people sick. Hope y'all understand. Thanks, -Larry

DIRECTIONS

LAT: 29.984019 LONG: -97.134377

From Austin. Take HWY 71 East to Smithville. There are three (3) exits in Smithville. You want to take the third (3rd) exit and stay on the feeder road to 230 (also named Old Lake that curves south). Turn right on 230 (Old Lake) for one quarter (1/4) mile. Turn left onto Old Lake Road and drive three quarters (3/4) of a mile to #290 Old Lake Road where you will see a large, light brown, pipe gate on your right. It has a iron sign that says "McMahan Ranch". From the entrance you will drive to the first large metal building to sign in.

You must sign-in BEFORE you ride.

Hope to see everyone out to have some fun riding and to enjoy the McMahon Ranch.

Thanks,
-The McMahan Family & AMSA

So do non-members who want to join the club pay for the guest fee + membership, or just the membership? Thanks.

Just the membership if you want to join the club ($35 as a single or $50 for a family).

Or you can pay the guest fee ($30/ rider) and ride as a guest.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the info Larry. Oh and thanks to the McMahans for the use of their land. Anyone who has never ridden here you got to come out and ride. This place rocks. WIll the McMahans be there. I need to give Wayno a hard time.

Thanks to my wife Jackie for letting me have so much fun. And to my son and daughter in law for letting our grandson go with us.
