How do you define beginners? This class sounds amazing and I'd love to give it a go. However, I've only ridden trail once before. The main guy on that ride said that I could skip the beginner rides and join the intermediate groups but I would probably need to stay near the back at first. Am I too new at this to give this a shot?

Thanks for the info!

I'm interested in the class too.
I would appreciate a few thoughts on the skill that one should have to enjoy the course. I know it may be hard to put into words the difference in beginner, intermediate, and expert.
A few hints might be helpful.

Riding the main loop at City Park taking most easy lines. Beginner stuff? Intermediate?

Larry may sign on with better intel, but I've watched at the two he has done at the ranch. he will have you doing a lot of basic skill drills, focusing on braking, cornering, bike control, etc. They are on just flat pastures, no difficult terrain at all. BUT Shane is very demanding. He watches and will insist that you pay attention and do it correctly. Not a bad trait if you really want to get better. One drill that he does is difficult, he will have you straddling a telephone pole, back wheel on left side, front on the right and will teach you how to ride down the length of the pole. I say difficult, Shane makes it look easy, his students struggled at first, but once they "got it", he had most of them doing it very well. There were several riders who wanted to quit; Shane wouldn't let them, or at least really encouraged them to continue. Those that did gained confidence and were proud of their accomplishment!

I took the class at the McMahan Ranch and everything thing he says above is spot on. I will add that you will ride a lot and will be pretty tired, so rest up and hydrate. It was a very fun and informative course. I definitely recommend it.

I did one of Shane's classes down at Skull Creek years ago. Totally worth the money in my opinion. Spending money on suspension and lessons is the best offroad money spent. He'll work your butt off but it's all fun and you'll sleep good that night I guarantee you that. Just bring a willing attitude and try to do what he tells you to the best of your ability and you'll be just fine. By the end of day two I was doing things that I probably wouldn't have tried on my own just out riding with my pals. The real trick is practicing what he all he teaches you once you're back on your own.
