POSTPONED - TOO MUCH RAIN

We plan to have a ride day at Watson Ranch in Leander, Texas on Sunday May 29, 2016.

This is a new property and a work in progress on roughly 700 Acres of land that is part rocky, part loam, creek beds, valley's and mountains relative to our area.

Currently there are roughly ten miles of trails. There will be a section of a couple of miles with a hard easy split. The hard split will be for A-B riders and the easy split for everyone else.

This ride day is subject to the weather.
We will make a decision Friday night or Saturday morning.

I will post all the details Friday night or Saturday morning.

Thanks,
-Larry

Stoked everyone is getting to ride the new property. Bummed because it is the only weekend I am out of town. Hopefully we are able to get out there again soon. Love me some AMSA.

Oh it is so good to see this in print!!

Larry is right, this is definitely a work in progress. Many of the prime woods sections are dense and required a lot of chainsawing, so progress was slow.

After you ride out there, please post up with comments and suggestions, either here or on private message.

If all goes well on this ride day, we hope to have the opportunity for more ride days out there. So the usual stuff---pack it in, pack it out...treat it like it's yours.

That is right, this is a trial run for family days at the Watson Ranch. We had an AMSA family day in 2001, then my father nixed having any more. This one needs to go well, for the family to approve having any more. So please be on your best behavior, on and off the trail. I certainly want to have more ride days out there, after all this work on the trails!! But I am only one vote in the family, so to speak.

Well I'm looking forward to it. I may even bring my MTB out for a spin and catch up with some of you I haven't seen in a while. The Watson Ranch is an aaawesome place with tons of riding and racing potential.

If the excellent AMSA track record of ride days continues, there will be no problems. Info will be given at the ranch about some specific concerns, mostly about livestock. The cows and horses are scared of dirt bikes, and their owners in the family do not ride dirt bikes. We have no pasture fences, and the perimeter fence is in horrible shape in many places. A spooked, scared cow could go right through the fence, and then we would have a big problem. Steps are being taken to prevent this from happening, but you know Murphy's Law.....

While other guys were marking trail last weekend, I was able to mow a couple of miles of trail with the tractor, after it just got fixed, including clearing some jumps that were getting grown up pretty bad with weeds. Those jumps will be lotsa fun! Other jumps are sadly blocked by over-full ponds. Then the tractor broke down, after it bogged down twice in mud and almost got stuck. The places it bogged were not near creeks, but on slopes where water is just seeping out of the ground, making bogs where I have never seen bogs before. We got a mechanic out there today, but he has to order parts and come back to fix it. I guess I was lucky to get that amount of trail mowed, before the tractor busted.
