We will be making big announcements for the season and setting up registration next week.

In the meantime, to keep everyone up to date on some of the new things for the upcoming season, here is something new for TORO:

This year, we have decided to incorporate a new race format, as well as a new competition aspect that we have not done before with our organization.

-We will be integrating a TORO specific Sprint Enduro format this season. The events holding this style of racing will be announced soon, but for anyone interested in learning more about this, there are a few series on the East Coast doing this. We will guarantee, however, that no more than half of our series will include the new format. This will to introduce Sprint racing to Texas, and provide an alternative style of racing for the winter. Based on member feedback, we will gauge interest and make adjustments for future seasons. This new format will use the same classes as scoring system, just a variation on how the races are performed - more information will be provided before we open registration next week!

-Our second announcement applies to a new scoring group for the year, independent of class selection and racing. We are very excited to announce to introduction of a Team-based overall competition this year. Much like many have seen in other series, TORO will be offering a 3 person team option at registration for all of the events. Specific details will be included in our announcements next week, but the basic idea is as follows:
-Each member of the team will be required to complete the event (no DNFs) in order to score TEAM points at that event.
-Teams will be able to choose their 3 members from any program, but it will be noted that there will be NO dropped races for the Team scoring system.
-Finally, and most exciting, the Team standings for the year will pay out at a minimum of 100% for the team entries, with a potential for sponsor input into the pool for year-end.

These new aspects of TORO have been reviewed in order to provide the members with new exciting racing in the winter, and to change-up the way we offer our program - we know many members get burned out from racing year round, and so we want to offer some variation to keep racing fresh for everyone. We appreciate feedback, and are open and willing to make this series more involving for members - if there are any suggestions or comments, feel free to send them our way!

We look forward to seeing what you guys think!

This is exciting news!!!
So what exactly is a "TORO specific Sprint Enduro"?
You said more info would be provided before registration opened....registration is and has been open now and yet there's no info?
What's different about a Sprint Enduro as opposed to a regular TORO race? Are the tracks different? Is the way we start different? Is the scoring different????
Thanks for all the hard work TORO does to keep things fresh for us riders!!!

Chuck,

As stated above, details will be given next week, which is when we will be posting our flyer and other relevant info. But to answer your questions:

-The Sprint Enduro format is different from our regular races. This includes being held on specific test sections (similar to a standard Enduro), with riders being sent in waves individually in predetermined intervals. Tests are scored for tkme, and the lowest time through all tests are scored as the winner (just like an enduro).
-The biggest difference is that there are no transfer sections. So all restarts will be accessible through or near the main camping area.

-The total race distance for each class will be close to a standard TORO race, and tests will be run in a set interval for each class, as determined on the race weekend. This will be based on the number of tests available and the length difficulty of the test sections.

This format is different for North Texas, but should be something that riders will appreciate in the effort to bring new interest to winter racing in our area.

For more information, please check our rulebook, and we will be posting next week to better familiarize the members with the format!
