I appreciate the thank you's. Really, I feel lucky to get to ride so much before the ride days. Trail prep is work and fun at the same time. I spend time with the best of people working in the woods. A lot of people help. As I like to say, it don't get better than this.

The reward is when people slow down on their way out and roll down the windows to say they had fun.

If you get stuck on one of the hard splits, I probably got stuck there too last week. You're welcome!

Greg

On facebook page around 8 Larry wrote, "McMahon Ranch is safe so far. It will be critical for everyone to be very careful this weekend. No camp fires. No charcoal Grills. No smoking. Run a spark arrestor if you have one. If you need a grill we can all share the gas grill at the barn."

Ride is still on for this weekend. We all need to be very careful.

The big fire near Smithville is on the other side of the Colorado River.

No camp fires

No charcoal grills.
We have a gas grill at the big barn we can use to cook if need be for those camping out.

No smoking, throwing your butts on the ground.

Let's all be very conscious about preventing a grass fire.

CBaron made a good suggestion.

The fire fighter's and people being affected by the fires in Bastrop are in need of allot of things. Go to this link for a list of things they need:

Help Bastrop Fire Workers and Victoms

They have drop off places in Bastrop where you can drop stuff off yourself. Last time it was in the parking lot with insurance company tents near Tractor Supply. That is on the north side of HWY 71 before you get to Bucky's heading East.

Or you can bring stuff and I will drop it off on my way home Sunday.

Thanks Larry for posting this. I wish we could do more....

I've been monitoring the page in that link and I just noticed that the list of items "needed" for donation has changed considerably. Looks like the Bastrop PD is not in immediate need of the items previously listed. Now it looks like "needed" items has shifted to the animal shelter and livestock needs.

I wanted to highlight this so that those that plan to donate items (and/or bring them to the AMSA ride) will check the needs-list regularly. It seems to fluctuate a bit.

Thanks again,
CJB

The most gracious thing you can do is to help someone you do not know without expecting anything in return.

The ride days are on for this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.

The fires are currently all on the other side of the mighty Colorado River.

A cold front is expected today which will make the winds blowing from NE to SW so we should not be affected by smoke.

I will post something here and on FB if things change. Otherwise the ride and camping is a go for this weekend.
