Let it rain! It will help with the dust.

This message from George McMahan:

And I just want to remind everyone, it is coming up this Saturday August 22nd! A lot of people have worked hard to redo all the trails and tie the two ranches together. There some all new trail, and some old sections tied together differently so it will have a whole NEW feel to it. All AMSA members are invited and any and all of Will's old riding buddies. That will include A LOT of people so be sure and tell anyone you know that is buddies with Will. And this can be a membership recruiting event for AMSA; if you are wanting to join, come out this Saturday and pay your club fee to become a member, Memberships are $35 for a single and $50 for a family. The ride day or the BBQ plate would cost you more than that so come on out. I k now it will be hot but we've been riding, cutting trail, and marking and as long as yoiu're moving, not really that bad! And please send me an e-mail if you are coming, by this Wednesday night so I can be sure to have enough food. gmac11@suddenlink.net Thanks, George

The ride will begin at sun up which I think is between 7:00 and 7:30 AM?

DIRECTIONS

LAT: 29.984019 LONG: -97.134377

From Austin. Take HWY 71 East to Smithville. There are three (3) exits in Smithville. You want to that the third (3rd) exit and stay on the feeder road to 230 (also named Old Lake that curves south). Turn right on 230 (Old Lake) for one quarter (1/4) mile. Turn left onto Old Lake Road and drive three quarters (3/4) of a mile to #290 Old Lake Road where you will see a large, light brown, pipe gate on your right. It has a iron sign that says "McMahan Ranch". From the entrance you will drive to the second (2nd) gate where you will see the LARGE metal barn. Sign in will be under the car port on the left side of the barn. You must sign-in BEFORE you ride.

Hope to see everyone out to have some fun riding and to celebrate Will Hendricks birthday, AMSA's first President and club founder.

Thanks,
-The McMahan Family & AMSA

George would like to remind everyone that there is no charge for riding and celebrating an epic birthday for a founding AMSA luminary. You can look for Larry or me if you decide to join the AMSA club. It's not required, though.

The trail is going to be a lot of fun and the temps are predicted to be lower than they have been lately. It should be a great weekend of riding and socializing.

I am also planning to come with my family. That includes three young kids all on 50s motorcycles will these small bikes have a hard time?

The kids on 50s have options.

The newest riders can ride jeep roads with your supervision. They are not marked but you can always turn back to get to camp. There are also lots of open pastures near parking to ride in. Jeep road riders should turn around when they reach trail markings. Trail crossings are not safe for inexperienced riders who are not aware of all the risks.

Safety note: DO NOT continue if the pink ribbons that are marking the trail are on your left - that is going the wrong way. The trail is one-way and nobody will be expecting oncoming traffic.

The intermediate riders can try the short section at the end of the trail loop that goes behind the barn, right by the parking area. It is is not difficult and would give a good taste of the trail conditions.

Accomplished riders can ride the whole loop. It would pose some challenge for a 50 but it has been done.

Looking at radar, it appears that the ranch may get some much needed wet stuff which should make the conditions perfect for the ride day. I think it's awesome how it seems to bring the rain when the club plans a ride day. I am going to try like heck to be there early if I can get away for a few hours Saturday morning.

TORCS just cancelled their race because of excessive rain. Are y'all still having your ride day?

Do you have to be a member to ride, fee for the day.
