GasGas, Is that invitation open to any body? I guess you can bring your bike to help survey the downed tree problem?

There is actually a trail under the trees, a little more than log hopping. A lot of the balloon loop looks like this!

Also a notice I saw on another forum was it might be the 4th! But this wasn't anything official.

Here's some more from a different section on westside. These are fairly recent pictures, end of last week. Amazing how wet it is. Just in case you're wondering, I'm not riding the trails, these trails are close to the road.

There will be a Trail Work day this Saturday- 6/20
Time: 8:30am
Where: East Side Trail Head.

We have 40 trees to cut out. As soon as we get this done, the East side trails will reopen.

You HAVE to be a certified sawyer to use a chain saw in the National Forest.

From TRH:

There will be a TRH workday on Saturday, June 20th starting at 8:30am at the Eastside Trailhead of the Sam Houston National Forest.
After the severe weather this Spring and early Summer, the Forest Service has closed all of the multi-use trails because of the large amount of downed trees, not to mention the wet conditions. Our job as a user group is to have our trails clear and ready to use when the rain does eventually stop.

This Saturday, a group of Multi-Use Trail volunteers will converge on the Eastside trails to clear the remaining downed trees and overgrown trails.

What you need to know: The trails in the Sam Houston National Forest are CLOSED. There will be no open riding during or after the workday. Only certified sawyers (currently Lynn Bailey and Robert Applegate) will be allowed to run chainsaws. If you have a good chainsaw, please bring it for back-up. We mainly need people to come help clear the cut up trees and trim face slappers. If you have a quad, please bring it along with appropriate safety eyewear, helmet, and gloves. Bring plenty of water and bug spray. If we get started early, we can beat the heat.

Please contact Lynn Bailey @ 832-465-7790 or lynnbailey24@gmail.com if you can come help...or just show up. We will appreciate it!!!
