H guys, ran my first ever quad race today at combine. All of the people were awesome! Didn't really do very well but at least I finished the race. I didn't know 5 laps could feel so long! I was pretty tired which I expected but I didn't expect the crazy blisters on my palms. Any tips to prevent blisters? Also anyone have a link or phone number for the gentleman that was taking pictures?

Looking forward to the next race now!
John

Skinner usually has a link to his pics up by Monday or Tuesday blisters suck. I wear an under glove that helps pretty good

Glad you came out and rode with us. The one taking pics for Quads is PD Mokry photography. He will have pics up here or on his facebook page.

Welcome!

Glad you had a good time.

Insure you have gloves that fit your hands well, and some MSR glove liners as stated above. Also, a good set of grips are important. I like the ODI Rouge grips personally.

See you at Maypearl!

Hey John, sorry I wasn't there after the race, my daughter was the one who was medevaced during the race and I had to go to the hospital. She is doing well now, very sore, broken sacrum, but will heal in time.

Looks like you survived your first race, well done! Results will come when you learn a bit of racecraft, hard to climb that hill without putting laps in during a race, no pun intended.

So here's the Facebook link for PDMokry: https://www.facebook.com/PDMokry?fref=nf

He only takes pictures of prepaid clients so he likely won't have much to show you for this race, but he may, send him a message and ask.

As far a blisters, I suppose it's all individual preference. I run Moose racing gloves and Quray lock-on grips and usually get small blisters, but this is my current best solution. You may have to play around with different combinations to find what works best for you.

Hope to see you at Maypearl in a few weeks.

Chris

If you open the blisters and put Preparation H on them it will take the pain away by the next day. My son uses this all the time.

Go to Risk Racing website, order you a half dozen pairs of palm protectors, each pair will usually last a practice and one race, then sometimes one extra practice. These will make all the difference, been using them for several years.

Thanks for the tips! I ordered some of the rouge grips and some palm protectors so we'll see what happens. Chris, so sorry to hear that was your daughter! I can't imagine how bad that must have hurt, sure hope she heals up quick. Her boyfriend actually rode up after i sampled some dirt on my first lap. I'm sure he got a good laugh watching me search the grass for my kill tether haha. I'll have to make sure to pre order those pictures for Mayperl. Some of the spots he was sitting would have made for some awesome pictures.

See you guys at the next one!

Broke my right side sacrum in Oct. 2012, along with a few other body parts, still healing, but that is just part of being old. Hope to throw a leg over one of the quads this fall/winter and see how it feels, still not ready to give it up.

I wondered where you've been Donny. I guess that elbow tendon is all healed up and ready to race by now. I've moved to the utility class, but it would be good to see you at the track again.

I've heard the sacrum takes a long time to heal, and that it always hurts, that about what you're seeing?

Hey Chris old friend, sacrum injury is tough, can't see it and can't touch it, but you can sure feel the pain and takes a long time to heal. Cracked my tailbone and L5, caused pain and numbness across my lower back and down one leg, then on top of all that my right inside mcl was hiper extended and both rear meniscus in right knee blown, all in that one crash. Been planning to come out and just watch, but something always seems to come up with the wife......uh.

I see you every now and then, on a wall there are a lot of trophy plaques, one has your picture from 2011 from the dreaded Pit track. You've been immortalized to everyone who won that weekend...lol.

I'll have to feel it out over the winter, try and get some practice in, and if all body parts will work right, I will get back to the racing next year. Probably not with the same vengeance as years past. Later.

Mechanix Impact gloves work well for me. Relax your grip. And if you get a blister, pop it and super glue it. Keeps the air off and it won't sting. Usually breaks down after a few days but by then it's healed up pretty well.
