Nice truck Charlie! Probably a little overkill for me though. smile

Thanks for all of the feedback guys.

I would prefer a 350 4x4 SRW or the equivalent 3500 over a dually.

What I am getting tripped up on is the GVWR of the 5th wheel (i.e. ~18,000 lbs.) is ~ 2,000 lbs over the 5th wheel towing specs for the 350 4x4. Are there people towing that kind of rig with a SRW anyway and if so how does it work?

Thanks for the education guys. Really appreciate it.

A SRW will pull it ok, however you may get a little sway, which will wear your rear tires much quicker, my rig is 20,000 lbs. so I opted for the dually F350 4X4 and it pulls my rig with no sway or issues at all. As for 4X4 I personally wouldn't own a 2X4 truck, if you only need it every once in a while, its will worth the extra money in my opinion.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Crap on the dually by the way, get a 3500 single wheel 4x4 and put air bags on it.

I have a Chevrolet 3500 dually 4 x 4. I pull an 18K fifth wheel and I have been stuck twice at TORCS races! Usually the four wheel drive will take care of things but even withh it I have been stuck. The guys saying that single rear wheel will work are correct, however, that big trailer catches wind on the highway and it will sway back and forth. The dually eliminates that making a much more comfortable ride. Go for the four by four dually!

Agree 100% with Craig, I have almost the exact same setup as him and have actually owned a 2 wheel drive dually and got stuck in damp grass... lets just say that truck didnt last long. 18K is a lot of weight and the peace of mind if you have a rear flat keeps me putting up with a 4X4 dually.

Don't forget its more about the pin weight then gross, I'm assuming your looking at toy haulers, they have a lot more pin weight than a standard 5th wheel to offset the toys, not sure a single rear wheel truck will be legal / adequate once this is considered.

Dont get me wrong... a 4X4 Dually can be a PITA if its your daily driver but what do you think would happen say your hauling fully loaded coming down a hill and have a rear flat... I would almost guarantee you your gonna jack knife... my truck weighs 8k and when I first got it I was setting up the brake controller, hauling my rv empty at around 16k and I didnt have the controller turned up enough and that trailer threw me around like a rag doll, you learn real quick how much weight that is... point being if your hauling heavy you want the most stable platform you can get.
