Are there any fellow geeks out there that were thinking of using Strava during the race? http://www.strava.com/

I was thinking we could run it in the catagory mtn biking and see what happens.

Pete,

I like the way you think! I've never used strava, and as we know there's no MX category. Likewise, I don't want to jack up all the mtn bike category rankings because I do ride my MX bike at City Park (emma long) quite a bit. When I inquired with my Strava-Geek friends about how to remedy this, they said that we should choose an oddball category that wouldn't get any stack rankings here in central TX. I've yet to open the app, but they suggested something like snow skiing, or maybe rafting/kayak (because we'd never overlap with those rankings, obviously).

But to your point, if everyone were to set up Strava app to run during their race, then it would stack rank all of us together. Additionally, it could show who was the fastest over a given section of terrain, like a technical climb, or long straight away. I'm planning to ride City Park tomorrow and my hope it to play with the Strava app today so that I can get some data tomorrow.

Later,
CJB

Yeah... It could be pretty damn cool. There is no mtn biking at Hidden Falls so I thought that might be appropriate.

I like the idea of choosing something consistent though. Therefore, I am declaring NORDIC SKIING. I changed my City Park ride to that so you mtbers dont get your panties in a twist over riding on motorcycle trails. I'm going back and riding there today so we'll see how it goes.

Right on, Nordic Skiing it is.

I'm going to get my Strava running too. I should be hitting CP tomorrow so we can get some segments completed. Just as FYI, my MX group rides an abbreviated route at CP. Its much more fluid and "flowy". The basics of it are: as soon as you leave parking lot and hop up onto the shelf...we go right and then take the fence line all the way down (its a kick @ss line on a MX bike), next we usually don't ride the "upper loop" around the halfway mark, and then lastly there is a cut thru towards the last 1/3 that cuts off one of the more technical climbs. With this loop I get right at 20 min laps.

Whatever the case, we'll see you out at HF this weekend. Everyone needs to get their Strava on (choose Nordic Skiing).

Later,
CJB

Hopefully that is a version of "motorboating" that I am not yet aware of?

Nice job out there this weekend Pete! I happened to setup all the Enduro Tests into Strava Segments and even though we were in deferent classes, we are now able to directly compare our Test segments against each other.

Looks like you beat me 2 outa 3.

Test 2
http://www.strava.com/segments/8244830
Test 3
http://www.strava.com/segments/8244875
Test 4
http://www.strava.com/segments/8244915

Since we ran different courses for Segments 1 & 8, I'm the only one listed in these.

I can't wait to get back out there and establish a South, Ridge & North loop segment. That would be a cool thing to check out if enough people jumped on the band wagon. Thanks for the idea.

Later,
CJB

Thanks for putting in the work Cody. As you emailed, this is totally rad:

Clicking the play button and you can see exactly how we ran the course against each other. You're right, it would be completely awesome if more people did this. I can't believe more won't geek out on this.

My Garmin Edge 500 kept losing connection (i guess). I had it running the entire short course, but it only recorded about 30 minutes worth. It was definitely on and running; i checked it at each rest.

Wow, that playback feature is pretty amazing. Didn't know Strava did that, very cool. So what's it mean when you're going -7.2km/h? lol
