Well guys does anyone have any idea about the race, there has been plenty of dust settling going on, I was out there earlier in the week and concerned about the rain and it was fine out there. But it sure has been hit hard the last couple of days..............

Due to heavy rainfall in the Sam Houston National Forest this week, the Ocho Loco Enduro scheduled for 9/12/14 has been officially postponed. The reschedule date will be October 19, 2014 (10/19/14). Please contact Lynn Bailey or Brian Perret for any additional information pertaining to the TRH Family Enduro Series. Please do not contact them for updates on SHNF conditions and closures. We apologize for any inconvenience, but as always, we will reschedule and try again!

Thank you,
Trail Riders of Houston

That's a TORCS weekend. Man I would really love to race the Ocho Loco enduro. Missed it last year due to injury and now this year because of scheduling conflicts. Hopefully one year it will work out.

Simply put, it is postponed because there is plenty of work left to do in preparation and not enough time to do it. Lynn Bailey has diligently been working to make this race go off and the weather has simply just put him "behind the 8-ball." Even after taking a week off work to spend in the forest preparing the course, the weather has hindered his ability to do so. Additionally, Uncle Sam has called on him and he would unavoidably have to miss the original scheduled race date. Yes, there are others that could handle facilitation of this race in his absence, but that's just one part of the equation. If you've never run a race in the forest, it would take about an 18-pack for me to describe to you what all goes into it. Yes, the trails are currently open and the dirt would be primo, but there are too many factors in the equation that are preventing him/us from putting on a good event.

Please don't take my following comments as derogatory or spiteful. Don't forget that these races are put on by volunteers and volunteers only. TRH, nor its members are profit-driven. In fact, it costs money to the members that put these races on when you figure in all the logistical costs that they incur in the days leading up to the event. If you're wondering why somebody would spend their time and money to put these events on for free and to get no seat time out of it, the answer is simple; love of the sport. So it's important to keep in mind that when an event is called off or rescheduled, it is by the very hardest. A good race chairman knows when it's time to throw in the towel, because he or she understands that a poorly facilitated race is not what racers want to come and participate in. Ultimately, that's the reward for putting on these events; the positive feedback received by the people that sincerely enjoyed it. And I can tell you from experience, it's a damn good reward. So again, postponing/rescheduling events is done as a very last resort and only when there is no other option. As racers it is our duty to respect those decisions made by the people who put their time, effort, blood and sweat into these events so that we can enjoy them.

Jeremy, we do everything we can not to step on other race series' dates, but sometimes it's just unavoidable. I race TORCS as well (although not as of late), and so it definitely sucks when this happens. I wish there were more weekends in the year!!!

Just to be clear TRH did not move this race to a TORCS race date. October 19th was originally scheduled at the beginning of the season for TRH's last race. There was no conflict until TORCS rescheduled their race and yes, it's disappointing.

Cheers

Ladies and Gentlemen--

The Trail Riders of Houston will hold Round 2 of the 2014 Family Series on Oct 19th, 2014. The Ocho Loco II Family Enduro will be held at the Eastside Trailhead in the Sam Houston National Forest. See the flyer for details on location. Beware of speed limits within the national forest!

At this time we still need checkpoint workers, sweep riders and road crossing guards. This is an excellent chance to get those workdays in for 2014 and help the event run smoothly. Please notify Lynn Bailey @ lynnbailey24@gmail.com if you can help on Sunday, October 19tht. Workers will need to be at sign up no later than 8:00AM to receive assignments. Earlier if possible! For those of you that don't know if you're available to work until the day of the race, you can call Brian Perret the night before or morning of at 713-429-7938 for an assignment. Don't call after 11:00PM or before 4:00AM. After 8:00AM the day of the race, no guarantees can be made that you will receive an assignment or get a workday credit.

Hope to see everyone there! The trails are in excellent shape and ready to ride. DO NOT FORGET that you need a 2015 State ORV sticker ($16 available at signup), a Spark arrestor muffler and sound test before you sign up (performed near sign up), and the $5 day pass (available at the trailhead).
