Any recommendations? Would a MT-43 trials tire work well, I've seen posts that say the terrain is rocky.

Just my opinion, but I was in Colorado this summer and tried a trials tire. IF the speeds are low and you really need grip, a trials tire works well. But, in Colorado, with all its rocks, I still preferred the knobby to the trials. The all around control was just better.

But, I have never ridden HFalls.

I alot of us that ride HF quite a bit choose to run the Maxxis Desert IT. You can get it in the big 120 (?) version too.

I was out there recently experimenting with how low I could run my new tubeless system and rock sliced my front tire 2x's in one ride. The rocks out there can be hard on equipment.

Later,

knobby's for sure, it's not trials tire type of terrain, loose rock dirt.

Like Cody said, I've seen a lot of the Maxxis Desert IT out there. I am curious to try the Dunlop AT81 Desert tire. I wouldn't run a trials tire. There is most likely going to be a section of many consecutive turns with barely a berm and marble sized rocks strewn about. You'll want your knobbies on that stuff for sure.

My son shred's tires in the West Texas venues where there is rocky terrain. I suppose most people do but I can only speak for the tires I have to keep changing while my son is away at college. We have used several different tires and finally tried the Maxxis Desert IT after observing what tires the AA guys were using most at a national and talking to some of the AA guys we know.

This tire has lasted MUCH longer than any tire that we have tried. We have not tried them all but we have tried about 6 or 7 different tires and brands.

The bottom of the list is the Dunlop MX51. More than half the knobs chunked or gone.

Tires seem to be like bike brands so good luck with what you decided to run.

For a C rider pretty much anything is O.K., even a used knobby. Not like you are going to be digging your way out of any sand of sandy loam at this place.

i really liked the At81 performance at hidden falls but with a tubliss setup you can rip a lug out there and lose pressure. A mousse would have helped or another tire.

I'd like to know what FRONT TIRE people are running in Central TX. And by that, I mean a tire that gets regular use on the Austin (west) rocks and then again on East Austin trail like Goertz or MacMahon? Is there a middle ground tire?

Thanks
CJB
