I'm rebuilding Bonsai's engine. Yea well, it does'nt look the lotto's gonna pay off, so an engine swap is out of the question. Besides, I dunno what's so bad about running a 4 banger. Sure, I don't go wizzing down the fast lane on the freeway, but when I'm in 4 low climbing walls, churning through mud, or digging out of sand, the 2.5L's of fuel injected squirrels have always done the job.

Besides I love it when someone I don't know watches me climb out of a gulley and up a vertical wall. When I tell them it's a 4 banger, they go "WHAT!, no way"

The trick is to be the 3rd or 4th rig in line and watch a few rigs attempt the climb, don't just sit in your rig. That way you see the best line and when you need to hit the throttle. The key with any set up, especially a 4 banger, is gears and finesse. You have to use more clutch and get it reved a little earlier. This set up is so light weight and I've gotten so used to it, I'd probably spin the gears or do a back flip in a rig with more power.

Because of the 36" swampers, soon to be 38.5"x14.5", I will go to 4.88s, superior shafts, and HD u-joints on the corners. But first I'm going to to rebuild the 2.5, bore it out a little, install a header, better ignition, and elec. fan to eliminate the fan clutch and free up some torque, high output alt. and dual optimas.

You can tell I've thought about this for a while. My concern is, I want to rebuild to maximize the power AND I want it to last! I want to be able to enjoy wheelin and not have to worry about it for a long time. So... when I get it all back together, should I use a synthetic oil, like the purple stuff? or should I stay with straight 30w????
