Just so I can help spread the word, what is the functional difference between XCD and regular races? I understand from the posts that the intent is to attract a new group of participants. But I don't see how it's supposed to work other than being another day of racing at one day events.

The classes seem to be the same and, I assume the courses. What's the hook?

Some who travel a long ways and just love to ride will like these events with the sat race. I think most who are really trying to be competitive at a high level will not race both days. I dont know many who are in shape enough to endure 2 to 3 hours of hard racing on one day and it not affect their race on the second day. Don`t know your answer though just a couple thoughts of my own.

What we think at LTR is to have a full weekend of events to make the trip worth while. A Saturday XCD race and team races and mini and other fun events on Sunday. That would allow us to have things going on Saturday evening where as everyone beds down early for a Sunday race.
I think a 62 mile XC on day one and fun events one day two would greatly increase the grins per dollar.
This is what we would like to do on our next XCD event.
Just my thoughts.

Only problem with that is my trip distance eliminates the opportunity to ride Sat. and I know many others with the same problem. Still looks like a fun series though, hope it works out for the clubs.

My suggestion is to get a schedule nailed down
Classes and organization of run time of each class! Some basic rules outlined,
Type of riding explained to newcomers!
Basically more info for potential racers!
I think this is a great idea and this is the direction off road racing is going! The western side of Texas needs an offload series!TheDFW area has plenty! Many people are looking for this type of racing!I think copy the pattern of Toro would be a good start. Club involvement is a must but you have to approach them with a plan!
LTR was a great event! Lots of questions from potential riders!

I think doing a harescramble style format would work well on Saturdays. Start at noon with 30, 60, and/or 90 min loops for the kids, newbies, freshmen and end with the fast guys. Short races, race with closer to same level (which believe me is a big deal to beginners). It's a warm up for some, extra seat time for others and helps justify some long drives.

2 cents worth!

You nailed it with the harescramble comment. Since it is a brainchild of TSCEC it is considered a cross country race. Same thing. At LTR we had everyone started and finished by 2-3 pm. The long course guys went 54 miles or 3 loops. Most only went 2 laps on easy fun terrain. All the clubs will make their own decision on how long or tough the course will be but I bet they follow our lead to some extent
Red canyon will be fun I bet.

Do some dead-engine run to the bike starts! So fun and breaks up the traffic on the starts.
