On Saturday, September 15th there will be a semi-unorganized Adventure Ride held in the Columbus, TX area. The ride will be a pre-cursor to a two day National AMA Adventure Ride to be held sometime early next year. If the people who ride this one day loop like it, we will apply for a National AMA Sanction so all of your feedback messages on how you liked the course will be most appreciated. Adventure Rides are tailored to bikes with 650cc engines or larger. Ideal bikes are KLR's, V-Stroms, KTM 990's, Yamaha Tenere's, BMW Adventure, etc. All are bikes that feel at home on the highway but can be ridden in the dirt. We have actually ridden course on street legal 450 KTM's a couple of times but your posterior feels much better at the end of the loop if you have one of the bigger bikes. All bikes must be STREET LEGAL! The ride will start and finish at Schoebels Restaurant in Columbus, TX. There will be a rider’s meeting at 9AM in the Schoebels parking lot so come early and eat a fantastic breakfast at Schoebels before the meeting and the ride. This will be an unescorted ride with no guides or chase vehicles. It will be as if you just went out on a weekend ride with your friends. It will be a "guide yourself" event by using a GPS track only. If you don’t have a GPS. Find someone that does and ride with them. Half the fun of these rides is the camaraderie! The course is right at 200 miles long and will take you 6 or 7 hours (or more) to traverse. It consists of lots of paved, gravel & dirt roads. There will be many gas stations and places to eat along the way. We suggest that you consider Orsak's in Fayetteville for lunch but there are many other places to stop and eat or just rest along the route. There is NO CHARGE to ride this time. This is a test to see if you think the ride will be one of National Adventure Ride Caliber. You will be riding at your own risk and we accept NO responsibility or liability for any incidents of any kind that happen during the ride! If you want to ride this course just email me at captjack530@aol.com and I will send you the Garmin Track file to load into your GPS prior to arriving in Columbus. If you can’t make it on the 15th, you can ride the course anytime you wish once you load the track into your GPS. We hope you have a Great Time! Please send me your feedback. This ride is open to anyone that wants to participate. You do not have to be a member of any organization to ride it this time. I'm not sure about trailer parking for this test run. I know that there is a very large parking lot just adjacent to the Schoebels parking lot that would accomodate vehicles with trailers. There are many side streets close by also that could be utilized for parking.

What is the ratio of pavement to dirt? I don't have a GPS that can accept files. If I ride I'll find someone to follow but any other method I can get a route map to view at home on my computer before then?

The course is approx 45% pavement. Not sure who posted the map but that long straight line between Columbus & Fayetteville doesn't exist. It doesn't show up on my GPS track file.
No official maps are available. GPS or a buddy with GPS will be "golden".
If we get a lot of positive comments about this 1st loop of the ride, we will apply for an AMA National Sanction and the informational details will be much better for it. This is just a test run to see if you Adventure guys think it rates as a National Event caliber ride.
In addition to this Day 1 loop we also have another 165 mile loop all laid out for Day 2 of a National Adventure ride and maybe we'll offer it up to you later for another one day ride if you like this first one.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Schoebels Restaurant in Columbus next Saturday. 9AM for a riders meeting.

With the weather reports are all indicating thunder storms and rain through next Tuesday, we are going to postpone the Unorganized Adventure Ride that we were going to embark on this Saturday. Riding in the rain won't be fun but I also don't want us (motorcyclists) to get negative criticism for tearing up the gravel roads in the area. The percentage chance of rain varies from day to day but rain is forecast every day.
We haven't decided on a new date yet but it is looking like Saturday, Sept. 29th right now.
My apologies for selecting a date that Mother Nature wanted for herself but nothing is stopping any of you in riding the course this Saturday if you still want to. You can ride it anytime you wish but it will be much more fun if you can do it in a large group.
Stay tuned. I will be back with a reschedule date soon.

Matt, You cursed our date by bringing up the word "rescheduled" so this is another one just for you!
