This is my first visit to this website.....I'm glad its here. I would like to ask advice on a trials bike for my son who is 9 and of average size for his age. What would be a good machine for him? I want a motorcycle not a bicycle or an electric. I cant afford a new bike and am wondering if an old Yamaha TY 80 would be a suitable bike. We have some acreage in SW Missouri with some challenging terrain and I wonder if an 80 would have enough guts. Also I'm looking for a bike for myself and am an experienced dirt rider. Any opinions of an old TY 350 or 250?

Do not knock the electric too quickly. The 36v bikes from are very strong. More torque than our GasGas 50 or even our Beta 80. The Beta 80 has more power but it's not instanaious like the Oset. The Oset is much easier to learn the basics of trials (or really any aspect of motorcycling) for young people than the heavier gas bikes. I have all three of these for your boy to try out if you are planning on coming to the Harvest Classic in Luckenbach, TX this October ( My 8 year old is competing on the Oset in the Novice class and doing fine. He prefers it over the GG50.

When the TY80 came out it was what I wanted very much as a kid, but now that I have modern bikes to compare it to I would not get one (did not get one actually) for my boys. Too big size wise and kinda gutless. Would be ok for trail riding perhaps, but not trials. My 2 cents.

I'd be interested in getting an OSET for my son.
Who sells them?
