Its a sandy loam that never gets woooooped out, hard packed or to dry. like a perfect motocross track.

Pretty sure I've had my fill of rocks and downhills. Loved the up hills! I just didn't much care for having to come back down.... Either my memory is failing or this was the hardest (DRY) track I've ever raced including Meunster.

I must say that the turtles did a very god job during the saturday practice session. I was at the bottom of the first hill climb when the turtle run came by, and everyone made it up!

I heard one of the torn staff saying that this should be the toughest track this year. And Liss your welcome, I was impressed, because I had made so many trips up and down that hill helping poeple, I was wore out.

Thanks for being out there helping. I know there were several people wore out this weekend. Gary had to go hide for the middle big bike race since he races the 4th race. I myself even helped out a few today and I thought I had picked a no crash zone to watch in....

I loved the track, but it was a butt kicker for sure. I think if it would have been in the middle of the season not near as many people would have had a problem with it, but to many of us have been doing nothing during the off season.

I liked it........all but that dang down hill. It was a big challenge for me and I did learn something while I was out there. DO NOT wait 3 months to ride your bike and decide to do such on the day of the race. But I do have to admit...the break from racing/riding did make me really excited about getting out there again. Honestly I believe if you were able to finish your race this weekend then you did great

Liss Brianna didn't have any trouble with the hills climbs either, but she did flip down the down hill section though.

Well i sure do wish i would've had a skid plate. haha probably the worst track to not have one at. Gotta say though, this was my first TORN race and first XC race on a dirtbike and i had a BLAST!(Even though I went sliding face first down one of the first big downhills on the first lap). I wish i woulda been moving fast enough to get a full 5 lap race in, but it was great! Definitely challenging enough to separate the men from the boys and the women from the girls!

Cant wait for the next one!

Same here I really liked the challenge even though I only made 2 practice laps before a tumble down the hill ended my race day. But I stuck around to cheer my nephew on in his race. Just think if this is the hardest track the rest should be a cake walk. Just sayin'. See y'all at the next race.

This track is like the tracks I cut my teeth on back in the day when I started racing cross country in 1983. I loved it!!! It was Lake Whitney without the stair-step ledges on all the hills. What a tough ride but very gratifying at the end of the day. Thanks, Curtis/TORN, for a throw back to the good ol' days. smile

Don't think it was the best track to open season with, but the track was the same for everyone. Some could some couldn't. I didn't,but made it thru it and can't wait for freestone. Thanks Torn crew.

coppertom I think you hit the nail on the head. My first thought after riding the track was that this is a mid season track. Not one that we needed to ride after being off 2 months, but I guess it's not TORN's fault we chose to be couch potatos.

Thanks TORN and staff. I think you guys did a great job.

Short Note from new member.
Handle describes me.
Few observations.
Total underestimation of fitness conditioning. (refer to Handle)
Bike way beyond skill set. (09WR450uncorked-wow.<12 hrs on new bike.Kasson Yamaha in Austin (and my wife-Thank You) were gracious enough to enable my delusion thru financing. Nice bunch; Old Time Texas Riders.)
Challenging terrain. (Hats off to those who made it around once at all. Friend got up the hill, waited for me, caught his breath, talked it over with another person watching, then made it down and bailed to the road.)
Nice people and well organized. We were in, riding practice, done and out the gate with narry a fuss. For $63 I got some cool numbers, a towel, and a total humbling lesson in the laws of physics. I didn't break myself and I didn't screw up my bike. That was cheap. (Does the transponder on my helmet now go off and warn my brain when I'm about to do something stupid on my bike? Nice feature.)
(Big Shout Out to those two kids who helped me get the bike out of that dip at the beginng. Thank You again. Had clutch interfernce issues. Was not helping. Wearing new boots I'm not use to and can't feel anything. Like the brake and the gear shift.)
I can't complain about the terrain. A twig would have been my undoing that day.
Looking forward to when we can do the next one. Goal. One lap.
(Nice touch was Medevac Helicopter in background when I'm on the phone with the wife detailing my total failure. I hope the rider is OK. Beyond HIPPA laws, what happened?) Everybody be safe. OldTxDoc

oldtxdoc,
each course exhibits a different challenge. dont let this one course set your mind that they are all this type of challenge.

freestone will have its own challenges for you. it is MX/CC with shorter elevation changes (dry creek crossings) and we will ride on the national MX track as part of our course. and probably will use the start gate.

never wear new boots. walk around the house if you have to. do some squats in them. joining liss on a turtle run could help. they will make sure you make a lap. see ya at the next one.

Here's my opinion on the difficulty of the track. Being close to Meridian with similar looking terrain I don't think the planners expected the surface to deteriorate like it did. The hills at Meridian are just as steep but the trails are solid. If the trails at Fly'n D had been like that I think it would have been a great track, challenging for everyone but forgiving for riders of lesser ability.
