My buddies and I are looking into getting an old ranch truck / hunting truck to play with at his grandpa's ranch. we're looking to spend $500- $1000 dollars-- preferably on the lower end of that.

It's not necessarily going to be treated nicely, so looks aren't too important (spray paint camo, anyone? haha). Just needs to be manual, preferably 4x4, and v8 to get us out of any messes we get ourselves into.

My question is, what to buy? Original plan was a jeep, but there are NO cheap jeeps out there. Considered 70' and 80's f series, ram, silverado, jeep, etc.

Which of these is the best choice? and did I miss any obvious contenders?

In advance, thanks for the help.
