Was good to meet you this weekend Juliet.

I know of one more definite - he's just slacking getting his membership paperwork in and there was a family out Saturday that sounded like they were real interested as well - probably add 1 or 2 more to your total.

Well, I am going to Skull Creek this weekend. I have tomorrow off and I think I am headed to Skull Creek in the morning. I'm pretty much a jack of all trades. Is there a list of tasks that need attention at the property?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron

Glad to see members chipping in to help maintain and improve the facility. Juliet has printed a list of items that need attention and it should be on the wall by the front door of the cabin. Hopefully she will pick up on this thread and indicate what is pressing at this time.

Thanks

Hey Toby - we met last weekend - I was on the new KTM, Jim was on the drowned Suzuki. Ron wasn't there, but he's usually part of that same group of guys. We're all itching to get our hands dirty, we just don't want to step on anyone's toes. I think I heard you mention you were adding some new trail in the NW corner? Need a hand with that?

Appreciate the offer, adding the new trail is on my 'things to do' list but really want to get the existing trails cleaned up and well marked so new members/ families can find their way around. I know that there are a few other items that were needed which were on the list in the cabin, please feel free to tackle any of those at your convenience. I would recommend putting your name next to the item so that two people aren't working on the same task.
With more people taking on these tasks, it will make a HUGE difference in getting Skull Creek in tip top shape. Even if it is as simple as stopping on some of the trails to remove branches out of the way.
Also want to thank you for helping Kyle last weekend and I hope that Jim was able to get his bike running again! ...And a big thumbs up to Roger , owe you one !

Since people have been asking about helping,Toby suggested putting a list up so here is the general plan for Skull Creek.Any other ideas are welcome - it is your club. The more you do to help the better it is going to be.

Work Weekend 13/14 March - This is primarily to Clean Trails.Those who can't make it - there will be an alternate one in June but it will be hotter!!!
Divide every one up between the Trail Bosses who know the property well.With enough people & organization it would be possible to get all the tight woods sections done in a day.The open areas I can usually get with the Kubota & mower.
Hopefully we'll have the place all PMT'd by then so getting around is going to be easier.We also have a few extra trails we want to put in to extend the loops or make them better.
These are other jobs that are on our to do list which can be done through out the year.

* Fix the BobCat one weekend - Marcus Peters + George Miller,Paul Sly & anyone who know about the hydraulic system on the thing!
* Fix old JD lawn mower if its worth it - also old Blue quad- again if it's worth it
* Fix up the old MX track & clean those woods out to regain old trails there
* Fix up Kid's MX track next to camp
* Put culverts in between the Lunar Dunes & main levee - gives us an extra crossing home again.
* Put up more Trail Signs & BACK TO CAMP signs - on u-posts or landscape timbers- a tractor with post hole digger would be handy
* Fix plumbing in pavilion - pipes & drains
* Cut & haul Firewood to camp
* Fix picnic tables
* Donated items needed: 2 more swings,volley ball net,any outdoor kiddy playground toys,a used but functional gas BBQ grill to cook for events,battery charger,maintainer.
TP.Paper Towel,soap,shampoo & cleaning materials for cabin
* Weedeat & weedkiller front gate area & repaint it with Yellow Safety Paint.Repaint TRH sign with fresh paint
* New gate on campground
* Lift cattle grids & clean them out especially the going out south.
* Fix the camp fence.
* Summer - mow & weedeat campground periodically
*Boxblade whooped out sections - some folks have offered to bring their own kit to help
* Remove creeper off barn,weed-eat around it & the bike loading ramp.
* Take Drywall & old Tires plus some trash in the bins in the barn to Mexican dump by Snake House
* Wash TRH equipment Trailer
*Maintain PMT markings (plastic arrows)
*Remove old paper arrows from past races & yellow ribbon
* Clean off bike washing stand periodically

Juliet,

This is great!!! Count us in for helping out over March 13/14. You know the most about what is needed at Skull Creek and with all the new members coming into the club I'm sure we can all pitch in to make this the best riding club in Texas. I've got a volleyball net and weedeater to dontate to the club, so I'll bring them up next vistit.

Toby,

I'm not as familar with the property as you, but I would like to help put a detailed map of the property together so that our new members can get an overview of where everything is at.

Anyone go out today? Is it dry enough for a tour? Not sure how to get to the stuff that was cut off by the dam. I am familiar with the dunes, NW and the levees. I had not planned on going so I would have to load everything up in the morning. I suppose you could get to the good stuff on the south by looping all the way around counter clockwise along the fence?

Monika, I am planning on meeting Derek out at SC around 10 for a quick tour. Depending on the rain and roads we will just have to see where we can get and how lost that I get smile

I usually carry a small pair of hand pruners with me for annoying face slappers - they fit pretty easily in my camelback - so I've got that part covered.

Brian wants to label the trails - thing is none of the group really knows the names of the trails - so without a tour guide or the inclination to have some of them "re-named" - that's going to take an experienced member.

Ron wants to re-hab the picnic tables.

I'd like to mark out the entire loop - starting with the front grass track, through the NE corner to the levy trails etc...but everything is so wet. I'd also like to replace the 15 amp GFI outlets and put weather-tight covers over them - as long as nobody else has spoken up for that. We're headed out there next weekend - weather pending - I'll take a count the of outlets and covers.

I've got a plethora of trail cutting tools that I bought and used for cutting/cleaning trail for the last Gator Bait Enduro - and just added a gas powered hedge trimmer for taking care of the sticker vines and small branches on the really overgrown trails. Just have to figure out ways to get the heavier stuff out where it's needed.

We've been able to find trail that's in pretty good shape (not too sloppy wet) - enough for a taste of what's there - I know there's ton more that's under water or just too wet to ride right now. It's probably enough to give prospective members a taste of what's there - just not enough for a big long loop til it dries out some more.

Sadly Jim had to take his bike to J&M to have the bottom end re-done - apparently it was running when it went under and sucked up some water..no matter though - he's having it rebuilt and shopping for a replacement - but he was definitely glad for the tow.

Al,
The front grass track & levees are already marked Yellow arrows.Ed Keeley reworked them about three weeks ago.
The Tear Drop/Grumpy OLd Man is marked with orange arrows going clockwise & white going anti-clockwise.
We have yet to finish the NW section which are Blue.

Thanks for the offer rgrainger. Sorry we didnt make it out there after all. I called & left a message on your voicemail to let you know - hopefully not too late. We did get out & ride at the local track though, so it wasn't a complete bust. The 2 hour drive (one way) for us to SC requires better planning & prep than we were able to accomplish this time.

I do still plan to send in the membership application though, so we'll be out there again sometime!

Al

Wasn't expecting such an influx of help but it is very much appreciated. We are starting to see more and more participation from members and it will only make Skull Creek a better place. I think everyone is starting to realize the value of having club property like this at your fingertips and we don't want to lose it. Keeping the trails in shape is top priority and every little bit helps. I've put the task list into a spreadsheet and can email that to you also. We aren't looking to get everything done in one weekend, this is just maintenance,and we want to keep it fun for everybody. We're getting lots of new members who don't know the property and we are working on a new map to simplify everything and hopefully that will be completed soon. Several members have GPS's and Ed suggested posting coordinates to a website. Just haven't had the time to check it out yet.
We went down Sunday and rode two loops in the Southeast section and had a blast. Found a few wet places in the beginning but overall it was great! Also found quite a bit of completely dry trail in the NW section which I think you will really enjoy.
Thanks again for the interest in helping out and we'll probably see you there again this weekend if the weather holds up.
