Sounds like you need to move each plug wire on the distributor one spot clockwise and time it again. If your mark is off 45 degrees, then your beginning setup is on another piston. When timing it, have the key off, unplug the advance wire, start the motor, adjust timing to 0 degrees, kill the engine (key off), plug wire back in, and you're done.
