im having a problem and it boggles my mind.... i have a 84 350 converted to tbi. when trying to time it "unpluged"..... it seems to run great if the timing mark is strait up and down w the water pump and all the way down atleast 45 degrees to the passenger side. when you try and bring it to the timing mark it runs like crap and most of the time wont run at all there. any ideas.... are the harmonic ballencers the same from carb to tbi?

Sounds like you need to move each plug wire on the distributor one spot clockwise and time it again. If your mark is off 45 degrees, then your beginning setup is on another piston. When timing it, have the key off, unplug the advance wire, start the motor, adjust timing to 0 degrees, kill the engine (key off), plug wire back in, and you're done.

it runs like glass when its on that side? so im thinkin its prolly not timed incorrectly internally. im wondering if maybe the ballencer may have spun on its self bc its not new by anymeans.... i will try moving all the wires one over and see what i come up with and get back to yall thanks you guys

Try the wires first. If that doesn't work, pull the balancer off and see if the key on the shaft didn't sheer off.
