David,
Welcome to TSCEC.
I would recommend you ride 50+ SC for your first season.
The rider numbers are based on your starting row and position and change at each event. There are 4 to 5 riders start every minute. If you were assigned 3A at an event then your row will start at exactly 8:03. The riders on your row will be assigned numbers 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, and 3E.
Come by my office the next time you are at Red River Motorsports and I will fill you in.
Bill Pearson

Welcome aboard David, We got a few things in common - over 50 and ride an old husky - wink Maybe we can share a row at a few races this year. You can keep your numbers on your bike, we usually tape a paper plate and sharpie to put your row # on the front.

I rode Concho on an 1982 XC250 Husky in 1983 it had a 4gal tank that came with it and a clutch pull that was really manly.
The thing was made to go strait and fast. I hit alot of trees that day. Good luck hope to see you at Concho.
