i really want to get the sas done on my truck in the next 4 months before i deploy again, i am trying to save some time so if someone would be willing to look for me if they are at FM600 salavage yard or one of the two salvage yards just south of it, I would pay a finders fee (within reason) or just help a brother out. I cant call them out here or I would do it myself. Thanks again.

Be careful on the year models. I think 77 will be as far back as you want to go on a 3/4 ton D44. Before that, they were low pinion, with small u-joints, and just before that they had closed knuckles and drum brakes. Check out: http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/web_rs44.html for a plethora of info.

i have permanent screen burn in from the littlekeylime website, been there alot. the thing is i am already $$$ deep in the dana 44 parts and can do the swap on the cheap. i know bigger is better but 35's are where i plan to stay for now. as for the different years if its older than and including 77 then I am going to build it with better u joints and what not, the 78-79 has the thicker axle tubes and better parts including the F250 (some) 8 lug, flat top knuckes, HD spindles, brakes, etc... Just think that the d44 is going to do me well, could you all keep an eye out for me?

i see he is running the d44 on a yj, leaf sprung I assume? Makes for an easy swap, just weld in shackle mounts. Been looking to buy a hobart welder as well. I LIKE the idea!

I love the IDEA, I just can't blow my build funds to get an axle, replace parts, and regear. If I did that now, I would be back to square one on my doubler, and suspension work.
Damn it, now you got my brain working...

Just did a quick 'shopping trip' and it would be about $1200 in parts, NOT COUNTING the axle itself to upgrade. This is assuming my steering links would work, and that the axle has good brakes/rotors, and hubs. Best case, I'd be looking at $2000 ($800 axle...yeah right). Granted, my 44 is built, but that is still a big chunk of change.

2000 yes but subtract the cost of the axle and its parts to me. What would you ask for your axle? How is it locked? I already have grears and a carrier maybe make some cash up that way. 5.38's are too deep for me.
I am talking to a guy right now who can have me a used 79 44 with steering linkages to get me by for now and parts all the way out to the brakes for 500 shipped to baird.

It has an Aussie locker. I put in new inner axle seals, ball joints, brake pads, and calipers. The passenger side knuckle is machined with high-steer arms installed on both sides. The hubs are stock, but work fine. I'd have to have 8 for it as it sits or 6 without the locker/gears. Also, I'd only pull it if I have a 60 located to put in. I don't want it sitting unuseable any longer than neccesary. The steering links I would keep for use on the 60.

I think after replacing all the seals bearings and ball joints 6 isnt unfair at all. I am game sir if you can nail down a dana 60 let me know. I will hold off on buying any more axle parts. Its high pinion reverse cut right? WHat it it out of, I will probably just go with weld on ford radius arm mounts. Thanks.

See what you people get me into? LOL It is out of a '78 F250. High pinion, reverse cut gears. I'll put out some feelers today and see what I can come up with.

95yj, sorry to lead you on but might as well put out the fire before it gets out of hand, i would need to convert this thing to 5 lug and would need knuckles out, this axle would just be too cost prohibitive for me. I dont want to convert the rear because it already has chromoly axles gears and a elocker. Needs to be a F150 or bronco axle. Sorry.

It's OK. My mind was reeling with changing directions on my upgrades. Read up on the Mr. N site about all the different 1/2 ton versions of the 44. There are some "not-so-desireable" models.
