I sold my expensive and highly capable built jeep last year to get out of debt, I happeneded to find a beautiful Bronco with 35's and 4.56 gears already installed with a rear eaton elocker but the front was not done. I need my gears installed. Any recommendations? I need a front locker as well, I have an open carrier for the higher gears and install kits but I think I may lock the front end. I do some colorado runs twice a year and wondered if i used 4wd I would need a selectable because an auto locker in snow is hell. Its a 3rd member dana 44 in a 94 bronco. I can rip it apart and bring the 3rd member and parts for an install. anyone have a 44 locker laying around they are selling?

How does it act in 4wd in the snow? Probably dont know. I do have warn hubs which will help street manners but i am interested in what 4wd will be like with the rear unlocked and the front locked in the snow when I go home to colorado for the winters...

For snow you might consider more of a 'soft' locker, especially in front.

If you can bring just the center section I can probably set it up. At least get a minor install kit with shims, a master kit might be something to think about as it comes with new bearings. If you wanted to get it done in town, Honest Auto or Big John's Chassis, Fains also does good work. Club members have used all of these with good luck. If you are carrying the center section in with new bearings etc you can probably get it done pretty cheap.

Thanks Tony I may just bite the bullet and get the selectable. Just have to get the boss on-board...

Mike I have the complete master/rebuild install kit and everything at home right now. Gonna pull the front off when I get home from this deployment. Another thing I am considering is getting a used dana 44 and installing the 78-79 axle into my truck. I know the parts add up but i have all my bills paid off and no car payments... I can afford better now. Thanks.

May be worth looking into doing a 60 if you're thinking about SAS. You'd be biting off a big chunk anyway, may as well do it right and not have to upgrade later. Ask me how I've come to that 'wisdom'.

dual 60's would be sick! But since paying off my debts I dont want to go right back into it (debt). I need my Bronco to crosstrain, DD and toy. Maybe in a few years this will become off road only and get another vehicle, that seems to be what everyone does anyway. Its cheaper and you dont have to worry about breaking stuff due to the drive home. So I have narrowed it down to a matching Elocker for the front as well. The rear already has one.

Mike, if we can install it at your place I can afford the Elocker, I would of course provide your favorite frosty beverage and a thank you gift. What do you think? All parts are new and i have setup an axle before, just dont have the tools or press or bearing puller, etc...

Thanks all.

IMHO--I agree with Tony, another option is a Detroit Truetrac in the front. Speaking from experience, they have very good street and snow manners, will help remedy loose steering issues from a lifted front end (loss of camber), and will softlock with the tap of the brake pedal.
Another point to consider is with a locked front end, you are more likely to break a C/V or axle versus limited slip. Just my .02 cents smile

Thanks OB1, I know that the truetrac is good stuff been doing some research. My outlook right now is to get the ELocker and install it with new axles from a dana 50. It has 3/4 ton ujoints which should suffice LOL. 1350 if I remeber correctly, well anyway. I will go head with the elocker and larger alxe in the D44ttb for now and down the road I will already have the locker and gears to throw into a d44 SFA which should be more than enough for me. I plan on getting a SFA out of a junk yard or off ebay this year to start tearing into, then gather the parts for the swap. I want to wheel as soon as possible and my ttb should do me just fine for now.
