As of yesterday I was notified by Ken Flanagan that none of the points will be corrected for any of the riders including my son (Jonathan Cantu #4). I don’t understand how Rudy Ramirez (owner of extreme mx park) can shake my son’s hand on Sunday (1-15-09) after the race& tell him that he would be taking care of correcting his points; points Jonathan earned by riding hard on the first series race but yet Rudy has failed to follow thru with his word. My son is not asking for free point just simply what he earned by racing clean and hard.
When the series first started there was no specifications indicating any 150s riding in the 85 a & b class and Ken also asked everyone for any objections for the 150s running in the 85 a & b class- absolutely no one protested up until after the first race was over and Jonathan Cantu #4 won the race.
It seems to be to Rudy ‘s advantage to move Jonathan to super mini so his son could place in the first race which he finished 5th place but yet on the points he has AJ Ramirez ( his son ) coming in 2nd and giving Jonathan Cantu zero points on the first 85a race of the series. He claims it’s not him complaining but Mr. Moore and Mr. Adams from corpus.
I have tried calling Rudy several times this week but he refuses to take my calls, I don’t understand why if he’s not the one complaining about the whole situation.
Rudy has no business managing a track much less tracking points for a series event such as this one.; its not a difficult task to do but it does require intelligence and a person who is fair and believes in doing the right thing no matter who the rider is. The whole series has been shattered because of the poor and unfair managing of the points. Unfortunately the only one loosing in this matter are the riders like my son who have raced hard and have followed the rules even when they were changed to benefit corpus riders.
This was supposed to be a friendly local race for fun but now we are bring in AMA rules to benefit corps riders.
Rudy incase you lost my # 956 227-1099

Respectfully yours,

Roy Cantu

Dad to Jonathan Cantu #4

I don’t like to address issues such as this on a public forum but I am going to reply to Mr. Cantu’s post in attempt to air all the facts that Mr. Cantu has neglected to mention. Five races into an eight race series I got a call from Mr. Cantu about wanting to transfer points from the supermini class to the 85A class in race number one of the series. In that first race of the series his son rode a big wheel YZ85 in moto one and a honda 150 in moto 2. The guys running Red Roost motocross track turned in a set of race results to me clearly showing J.Cantu #4 winning first place in the supermini class. (I am not a genius but I can read.) I am just entering the kids in the position that the race results are showing them to have finished in. Each track is responsible for scoring their own races, and then the score sheets are given to me and I just transfer the positions into trackside and then have my web guy post the results. When Mr. Cantu called me we discussed his issues and I said I saw some of his points. But let me make this very clear to you Mr. Cantu and Mr. JoseLuis I am not making any decisions alone when it comes to transferring, adding or subtracting any points in this series. I am only one vote in this 4 track series. So I made no final decision until all 4 tracks had discussed the issue. We decided AS A GROUP not to transfer any points from one class to another for J.Cantu #4 or the other 2 riders who were requesting it. If there was an issue with class placement or scoring it should have been brought up immediately after the first race of the series, not 5 races into the series when points and class positions had been established. I felt like the subject was open to discussion until the four track representatives made the final decision to not transfer points for any of the riders. Once we did make the decision as a group the matter was closed and that was the message that the Red Roost representative was supposed to relay to you. That is why I didn't feel the need to respond to the one phone call you made to me after the group decision had been made.
As far as bringing AMA rules into this, the AMA rules are the guidelines we use when there is a conflict. You are correct this series was supposed to be fun. Unfortunately Mr Cantu this is also a competition and when there is a competition there are rules involved. This is not an AMA sanctioned event and we do not want it to be but there has to be some sort of guidelines to go by when issues arise. That information was relayed to you when we spoke over the phone. I also told you that you were just making assumptions as far as who was doing the complaining and it really didn’t matter who was complaining that when an issue is brought up it is our responsibility as sponsors of this series to address it. There is no way to catch every infraction that occurs, that is why we depend on the parents to become semi familiar with the rules of motocross competition. Mr. Cantu you did not start racing yesterday and you know you cannot run two different bikes in the same race especially two different displacement bikes in the same race and then expect to get partial points for one class six to seven weeks into a series.
As for your opinion on me not having any business managing a track or managing points in a series like this, I believe that anyone who steps up and makes the sacrifices that my wife and I have made in building and running our own track has every right! There is no club here this was Precilla and my dream and we built it on our own. If anyone else steps up and makes the sacrifices we have I believe that they also have the right. Owning and running a track is no easy task and we do what we can to keep things fair but occasionally someone is going to feel like they have been wronged. To attempt to blame me for your issue on a public forum is wrong in so many ways. When you stated that I was making decisions to benefit my son you went over the edge. I told Paul and Ken from day one that I would pull AJ out of this series just so there was no such controversy.
Mr. JoseLuis or anyone else for that matter who feels they have a legitimate issue they would like to bring up as far as the series goes please contact one of the track representatives and I assure you we will discuss it as a group and a decision will be made. Just don’t be bitter if it is not the decision you wanted to hear. We are trying our best and we cannot please everyone. Mr. JoseLuis if you would like to take over the scoring please talk to the other track reps and if they agree I will gladly hand you the pile of score sheets and you can have at it. Just remember to include your personal phone number and email address so you can be included in all the fun along with all the other volunteers putting on this series.

BTW Roy...i did talk to your son while he was on the line getting ready to race and told him not to worry about the stuff that was going on that we would figure it all out, go out there and have fun...basically the same thing I told my own son who was lined up right next to him.

The "South Texas MX Series" is a series of races based on a collective effort between Red Roost MX, X-Treme MX, Laredo MX, and LFMX. All of the issues and decisions regarding the series are discussed among the four tracks. Regretfully, Rudy Ramirez has become subject to a personal attack on his character and has received some very harsh and undue criticism for his voluntary efforts in posting and keeping a log of the series score results. As it has already been stated and in plain and simple terms, Rudy merely enters the results of each tracks score sheets as they are submitted to him. He has absolutely no control over the method or the means of how those scores are tabulated or how they were arrived at except at his own track, X-Treme MX. Regarding the issues in question, the four tracks discussed the situation and decided that we could not, without adversely effecting other participants, re-classify those who are wanting to change classes or transfer results from one class to another. Any discrepancy should have been brought up immediately follwing the first race at Red Roost back in August.
This series was put together in the spirit of fun and friendly competition and to help promote the sport of motocross in general and like in any competitive sporting event situations and arguments arise where decisions and final judgements have to be made by the officials with regard to the best interest of everyone involved.

With that being said, We don't appreciate any personal attacks against Rudy Ramirez for posting the series points for ALL of us! WE continue to support each other and all tracks involved simply because we love the sport and companionship of racing!!
