Hey gang, I'm headed out today for the Vegas to Reno race. This year it is a 3 day 1000 mile extravaganza. Austin's own Mike Voudouris and Zorba Racing (Trophy/Trick Truck #60) has the Geiser built Ford ready to go. I drive the Hauler, pour a little gas, change a tire or two and hang out with the fastest guys on dirt. Some of you have seen Mike's truck, and it's top of the line. With over 720 horsepower and 30" of travel, it still makes the hair stand up on my arms when he starts it. We haven't done too well at V to R in the past, so y'all send some good AMSA karma our way. I'll take pics and post a few when I get back.

Day one was rough today, on lots of racers...Zorba included. We lost a lot of time on mechanical gremlins, but there are lots of other cars suffering too. Much like the ISDE, we get one hour at the end of the day's racing to work on the car. We used about 58 minutes and solved lots of problems. Hopefully, tomorrow will go well and we'll have a shot at making a move up in the pack.

Paul,

Mike said the woods had too many trees and not enough dust! I've been trying to get him out riding with us at an AMSA family Day, but no go. He has shown me how he won several Vet Expert desert classes though! I don't know how he'd handle trees, but he makes short work of cactus, whether on a bike or in the truck.

Day two and Day three went much better for the Zorba gang. We made up lots of time on the track, worked our butts off in the pits and didn't have any more mechanical troubles until the last 30 miles. Mike brought the truck home in 8th place, which is incredible considering the first day's finish. The 8th place finish will move Zorba from 10th in the series to somewhere around 5th 6th or 7th. We have one more round in December, and a top 5 year end award is within reach. To come all the way from Austin on a limited budget and run with these big dogs is a pretty cool feat. Most of the teams are local and have multi-million dollar annual race budgets, backed by Casinos, Energy drinks, etc.

The Featherlite race rig has a huge Texas outline on the side, with a red star on Austin. I can promise you all that everywhere I drove the truck last week, people remembered that star and wanted to talk about Texas. There's no place like home!

Good job guys....way to represent Texas!!

Ace and I took Mike to Sidewinders one year and he was not too thrilled by the end of the day smile We rode with him to the races and he was sooooo ready to go, Ace and I never got to get our trophies. He went on and on about how trees and woods suck on the ride home.

Hey Tom, we saw you guys out there, well Mike anyways. We ended up 2nd after losing a transmission and rider in our chase truck. Jason and I did day one on our own and took second. 14min down from 1st. No excuses but we just couldnt get any clear air. In somebodys dust all day. Just cant take chances in a long race like that so we settled down for a 2nd place. Day 2, we ran right behind 1st all day, 30 seconds behind to 2 mins. Day 3 same, we came into the finish 1,2,3, all within 1 or 2 minutes of each other. We had a blast. Think we moved into 2nd for the points. On to the Bilek 300.

Tom, i heard that the J&J warehouse on 290 burned down this morning. I know the Zorba trauck is kept there sometimes. Is the truck history?

What about the rest of Johnny's toys he had in there?

Haven't been able to find anything on the internet about the fire yet.

The truck and trailer were not in the bulding when it burned. Unfortunatly the race shop and the rest of the building contents were a total loss.....

Among other things the RV, boat, a couple of jets skis and another truck were lost in the blaze also. That was an 800k+ RV.
