Hi guys, I'm going to be moving to Houston on job relocation soon and I had a few questions. I accidently posted this in the general forum. So sorry for re-posting.

- Do you need street legal dirt bikes to do enduros and most other rides you guys have? Will a 250 two stroke be fine?

- Is there room to join the Skull Creek club?

- Take Shane Watts training classes, they're awesome!

Thanks for any input

Thanks again

Welcome to Houston and I'm glad you're showing up with a dirt bike =)

Most of our races occur at either Skull Creek or the Sam Houston National Forest. Since Skull Creek is private property you can pretty much ride anything. The national forest requires that your bike have a spark arrestor and you'll need a "permit" and a multi-use trail pass, both of which are relatively inexpensive.

You would only need a street legal bike if you planned on riding on the roads.

Skull Creek does have membership slots available. If you have any other questions, let us know.

Take care,
Lee

Well, I have to be honest. I'm not that good yet. Ive got a lot street experience and some sportbike track time experience. Dirt is fun though. I was hoping not to get run over if I do an enduro. But, you gotta learn sometime.

You won't get run over. Very competitive, but fun for all levels. There is a beginner class. Welcome to Houston where the fun is year round....

So, I'm 25 and want to live in an area that is relatively young and social. I also want a garage or I need to figure how to get by with something like a garage. Is this possible in Houston?

Thanks again for your help.

The "young and social" request will throw a wrench in the garage plans.
Homes in those area areas are expensive and have very small lots.

What part of town will your office be in? If you look around and show some patience, you can find some pretty good places. There are many townhomes that you can rent or buy that have garages.

are street motorcycles even considered by most of you? Or is driving around Houston on a motorcycle the same as a death wish?

I don't know much about that area but if you go out a little further west to Katy you should be able to find some good places. Look into renting a house or townhome as well, that way you will have a garage.

There are quite a few different apartments with garages within 5 miles of Clay and the Beltway. Check around 290 and Jones Rd or West Rd or Eldridge. 5 or 6 choices. Plus a motorcycle shop.(Honda of Houston)

Most apt complexes in the area have garages for rent. Just pick one thats less likely to be broken into...(good lighting, good locks, good neighbors etc). I used to live in Jersey Village, near Honda of Houston and what I like most of all was the nice pools the property had and they had a car wash area which was great for washing dirtbikes too. Not all apt complexes have hoses available. My other grievance was I was on the second floor with tall ceilings and in the Summer, the a/c unit couldnt keep up with the heat.. It was 80 in my apt in July and Aug. A newer apt complex would be less likely to have that problem.

Welcome to the humidity and heat! And yeah, street bikes are a death wish in Houston... but for some strange reason I just bought one. And a good helmet and lots of armor.
