It kicks you back like a pack mule when you try to start it and bring it to life , comp release does not release any real compression and only lets you think about how worn out you will be when it decides to fire.....

yea....most likely the best bike I ever had.....

My 76 400 Maico is here in Austin also...saw it in a vintage bike show a few years back, now that will make you feel old!

And Munson and I were in the 8th grade together..like '68. He started on a SL100 and I had a AT1. I'll have to greve him for selling the 490.

I finished 5th over all in the Texas Series on that 490, in the pro class. I think Dennis Hawthorn won.

Mike, I'll give you a call.

Spent a couple of hours on the phone with Ronnie last night....gave him crap about selling the 490...BAH!! I love hearing about all the old bikes he has stashed... Now he wants me to go vintage flat trackin. Not to sure about that, but back in the '70s we would short track on Saturday night, change tires and moto on Sunday. He had a Sherpa S 200 and real Astro 360 and I had a Rickman/Montesa 250 and a 380 CZ. We could run with a trials tire on the back and knobby up front, it was kinda cool...

Really, I'm hoping to get my hands on a '010 KTM....My only vintage bikes are CT70s.

Very cool bike!!

Doug, don't ya wish you still had all the bikes you have owned over the years?? You would need a warehouse, lol!!

Beautiful Maico, love the vintage red and yellow German machine. It looks brand new.

HA! That's funny Doug...I have heard some of the Vet enduro guys talking about riding vintage bikes in current events and they said they hated the things then and why would they want to ride them now.
I still think the vintage bikes are cool and the guys that rode and currently ride them are even cooler. Real men, I tell ya.
Hey, I resemble that remark, lol! I could use a new bike too. Maybe I should send Santa Claus a letter.

If you run across another 490 shoot me an email.
I have a picture of John DeSoto("THe Flyin Hawaiin") racing my 490 I sold - I would post it but don't know how.

Something is not quite right if it kicks back. It should be quite easy to kick safely with the comp release. I always removed my comp release and never had a problem. Ck your timing. Be sure the cylinder is primed with gas before starting.

I could give you a half a lap jump and still run you down. I used to have a Cz like your 380 and the 490 is a modern bike compared to it. Switch bikes and you would spank me the same way........

I replaced the CZ's with a 250 Elsinore.I thought I needed better legs. Now you'll have to give me about a three lap lead with this gutless turd.
